melanie alnwick is live in the victim's neighborhood this morning at the victim's school with the details on the investigation. what is the latest? >> reporter: good morning. unfortunately, there isn't a lot of information here the police have to go on. the school community is just stunned by the murder of a central high school junior, marckel ross. his body was found not far from here along a well traveled sidewalk about halfway between his home and his school. 18-year-old marckel ross was and honor role student, said to have a bright spirit. air force member of the modeling club, the track and field team and rotc. no one can imagine why someone would want to kill him. ross was walking to school along old central avenue tuesday morning. police got calls shortly before 7:00 a.m. about someone lying on the ground. then they arrived to find ross dead with a gun -- a gunshot wound to the upper body. ross' family is devastated. >> i miss his smile. i miss him dancing. he like to perform for the family even if you're not willing to look at him. he loves his pictures. marckel was a good son. of

melanie alnwick is live at police headquarters in northwest with the latest. >> reporter: we have two attacks, just blocks apart, both men walking home after midnight and both men robbed of their cell phones. the latest victim, casey adams, says two men caught him off guard. he was talking with his wife on his cell phone walking home after midnight. he was attacked, punched, kicked and robbed. tc maslin was absentee and robbed of his phone as well. both crimes on north carolina avenue southeast near eastern market on capitol hill. police released this surveillance video last week. they say the people in this 2005 hyundai sonata were using tc's credit card near the crime scene. casey says his attackers also took off in the car but he didn't see it. last week, the chief said residents have worked hard to reduce crime in the city. >> now, the police have stepped up patrols. they have quick to say that robberies are down in that area. but to the people that are impacted, especially through any type of violence, it doesn't feel that way. i'm very concerned. until this under control, until
