we got word of it near the intersection of altamont pass road and grant line road and the caltrans cameras also show traffic slowing down because of this. on the tracey side of the pass. so we're taking a look at weather and we want to know to how the winds are around there because that would not be good job. yeah, the wind is definitely strong in that vicinity. this has been an area that has been very subject grass fires so far this year. >> and it is going to be something that the fire crews are having to contend with. that strong wind that along with it is pushed in some of this low grade. this is from the east bay hills right here. as you can see, some of that cloud cover overhead. now least don't have any new lightning strikes today. that was something that was hugely concerning. his first fire danger goes the past few days. yesterday we saw some thunder and lightning up in the sierra couple strikes here in the bay this morning. it's just been some low stratus clouds, a very deep marine layer, having scooted through with that does come the wind but also cooler temperatures which is he

we'll start with weather conditions around the new fire burning in the altamont pass. temperatures and humidity levels aren't a major problem, not that warm and not all that dry, humidity levels well over 50%, but the winds are gusty, gusting up to 35 miles an hour and you saw the effect that wind is having on the smoke plume, carrying it far downstream. we'll see hotter conditions taking over the next couple days. let's look at the advisories and warnings in effect and most inland parts of the bay area under a heat advisory tomorrow, wednesday and thursday. for solano county it's an excessive heat warning and that is more severe. that's where heat exhaustion, even heatstroke becomes much more likely. temperatures likely to exceed 100 degrees for much of solano county. for the rest of the region heat advisory just means folks sensitive to the heat, may have issues during the hottest part of the day, especially tomorrow and wednesday when temperatures run about 15 degrees above average, inland temperatures into the 90s, some of the hottest spots around 100 degrees. we'l

a lot of folks held up back in the altamont pass. good morning. i'm silvana henao here at cnbc headquarters. stocks are set to open slightly higher today. and that's because investors are gearing up for this morning's monthly jobs report, which is just about 15 minutes away. now, all three of the major averages are on pace for a winning week. now, as far as the jobs report goes, economists surveyed expect the bureau of labor statistics to report that the u.s. economy added 190,000 more jobs on the month, which would be a slight step up from that 175,000 gain in april. shares of gamestop shooting higher in yesterday's session after meme stock leader roaring kitty scheduled a live stream on youtube, which would be his first one in almost four years. gamestop popped more than 47% higher to close at 4655 per share. the stock actually hit a high of 4750 during the session, in which trading was briefly halted for volatility. the stock has more than doubled so far this week, and retail giant tjx that's the parent of tj maxx, marshalls and homegoods, said

but you know where that altamont pass is where the fire is. it is gusting pretty strong there in the 30 mile per hour range. so let's get a look at the temperatures tonight. overnight. lows are pretty mild. we're seeing 50's and 60's. you wake up to the clouds tomorrow and then we will be warming up tomorrow. we won't be as warm as we will be getting, but we will see 70's now towards the san joaquin. you could see some 80's. that's what we saw today. mid to upper 80's. here's that 7 day outlook. we can really see that heat starting tuesday where our inland communities will be in the 90's. you can even see wednesday close to triple digit heat. that will be the first of the season. so yes, we're getting is how warm months. you know, we've been through this before and the winds. it's all about the winds tonight. so hopefully it's you know, that firefighters can catch a break. yeah, hopefully they can. we know that we heard from cal fire earlier. they were saying it's going to be. >> maybe daylight tomorrow that they really get a good estimate. ye

look at where the corral fire was, right past the altamont pass. the hills act like a little gap and that can speed the wind up. this is a notoriously windy part of the bay. just to give you an idea of how it is different from where they were battling the corral fire and where you likely live, look at the wind right now, look at that band of orange working its way over 580, squeezing through the altamont pass. it gets very windy out here and it indicates where the fire happened, just west of tracy and east of the lawrence livermore lab. all this territory out here, they will still have gusty winds. taking a quick look ahead, enjoy today, there is a significant warm-up about to take place. when we get together for the complete forecast, we will spend that entire visit focused on the intense increase in the heat that takes place tomorrow. today is easy. don't expect much change today but many of us will be 15 to 20 degrees warmer tomorrow. we will start talking about it getting just downright hot. we have heat advisories for many of us, we will have

this is actually a bit of good news around livermore, although up around the altamont pass where that grass fire is currently burning around 10 miles per hour. winds at the moment. winds do pick up later on today. now this is good news for us because it actually cools us off into the evening, offering some relief, maybe not good news if that fire is still burning around the altamont pass, though, the fact that the 2nd half of the day will start to get a bit breezier 60's to 70's for your daytime highs in the city today as well as along the coastline and then 80's to 90's for most of the rest of us. burlingame, 84 redwood city, 88 san jose. today you'll be at 92 degrees livermore as well as conquered in pittsburgh, getting close to the triple digits at 97 degrees. each oakland, you'll be right up to 80 well closer to triple digits. even then the rest of the bay in vacaville at 99 degrees today. tomorrow's temperatures wil still be warm but not as warm as today. low 90's at the warmest for your wednesday. by thursday, we return to averages and will stay that way in the 70's to 80's jame

so you see the wind speeds there, still strong through the altamont pass. patchy low clouds for the morning with 50s to start by around midday. we begin to see those 60s and 70s and for now the temperatures are comfortable. we're talking mid 70s around san jose, 60s closer to san francisco, low 70s into oakland, livermore up towards contra costa county and solano county, 70s and 80s. but some big changes coming up once we get past monday. look at this mendocino county. a slight chance of some rain showers, but behind that weather system, high pressure starts to build in the strongest high pressure system we've seen in a while, leading to the hottest temperatures of the year. right where the fire is burning tonight from tuesday through thursday through solano county as well. an excessive heat watch. so notice monday temperatures still pretty comfortable. we've got 70s and 80s, but by tuesday all of this orange and the heat risk index moderate risk of heat issues around the bay area once again into the 90s. we're seeing that area south of san jose near 100 de

altamont pass is notorious for this. and as the wind is rushing in to the bay and the delta it whips around and picks up in intensity. for that part of the most interior regions of the bay and we are even talking more central valley than bay, but that is where the wind is trying to squeeze through the worst. they have a lot more containment on that fire and it is doubtful that this fire will go back to anything like its former self because of the containment lines they've got on it. the big issue in the weather is the warm-up coming our way. we can look at it into, ways -- in two ways. the warm-up is focused on tuesday and wednesday and will be a lot noticeably higher than these numbers. southie is still in the low to mid 70s and livermore, mid to upper 70s for daytime highs. you can see the rest of the bay with temperatures very similar to yesterday. tomorrow, noticeably hotter and we will take a look at some of the numbers, look at the one up here in the front. san francisco will be near 80. we will take a look at ever

north bay hills, diablo range, altamont pass areas again. we see these hot days and warm nights set up, that will be concern for elevated fire danger again early in the week. now, we talked about the different types of clouds. we're likely to wake up to tomorrow morning. notice the thunderstorms off to the east. it's this band of high clouds which came in around sunset tonight. that's how we're going to wake up tomorrow morning. not just the low clouds around the inner bay, but those high clouds as well. moving forward late morning to the afternoon, skies clear a bit. but look at this on the coast. the fog fills back in once again, ensuring a cool finish to the weekend there for san francisco and the coast as we wake up to 50s to start tomorrow morning, right around midday, probably the most sun we'll see, at least for the coast, will be right there around lunchtime. numbers staying in the low to mid 60s near san francisco. upper 60s in oakland, 75 in san jose. and look at those east bay valley temperatures tomorrow. nice and comfortable to

so at last check, i did see the altamont pass, which is north of the crowd. fire was at 44 gusting at 44 miles per around 10 o'clock hour. and then around 2 pm. that's right around when the fire broke out. so has been some strong winds that we are in between a very strong, a pressure gradient between high pressure, low pressure. so if you are or where you are in the bay area, it was pretty breezy. that's pretty much why you felt that way. and here's the future. wind gusts around midnight. 23 miles per hour expected over at livermore and east of livermore even higher. so still strong winds overnight. now around the 07:00am close to 08:00am. looks like the winds calm down just a bit with the exception of the coast will still be in the 20's. but i our concern, of course, is that the firefighters and, you know, dealing with the flames and all that dry brush out there that area a sunday afternoon and evening, we could see another pop in the winds as well, especially around santa rosa, close to 30 miles per hour and as well. so the higher peaks we normally see. let

slow the morning commute along the >> altamont pass. you see firefighters working to douse hot spots. this effected lanes of eastbound 5.80, along the altamont pass their kron four's. philippe djegal reports. >> cal fire's hand crew digging fire lines to prevent the flames from spreading into the hillsides. the state agency, alameda county and livermore pleasanton fire departments also responded to the blaze along the altamont pass. secret joe would just map to somebody like around it. we map that 23 acres but cal fire battalion chief bryan goff says it could have been a lot worse as the heat advisory went into effect in the area. at about the same time the fire was contained all but one eastbound lane on be shut down for more than an hour before the chp gradually started reopening lanes. once forward, progress was stopped just east of the north flynn road exit in livermore. good thing is right the ranchers are starting to throw more cattle in the area. so there's more grazing land. the normal. >> we've a lot of rain last couple years.

here on the altamont pass, just east of the north flynn road exit. fire is out. as i mentioned, it's 75% contained, and cal fire will monitor this site over the next 48 hours to make sure nothing flares back up. they don't know what caused this fire, but the battalion chief says that typically around this time of day, there can be a spark from a vehicle, a driving by that's dragging a chain or from a malfunctioning car or big rig. sometimes a catalytic converter can throw off a spark. this is already, as you mentioned, a busy wildfire season for this part of the bay area. there was that 14,000 acre corral fire in nearby tracey a week, and a half ago, a 44 acre wildfire this past saturday on the western edge of the altamont and in this smaller wildfire this morning, the last couple of seasons over in this general area, we haven't had really many starts, so we haven't had as many fires as we normally do this year with the rain, we've had the last two years, no fires or very little fires. last year, more rain this year. the fuels are prime for a very hot, fast, begi

that is that kind of wind tunnel out of the altamont pass, right there down on the west side of san joaquin county. gusty conditions, unlike today, are expected to last through the day on monday. so it's good news that they did get to boost to the containment lines today. more challenging conditions ahead. first, a little more wind on monday, then eventually more heat and dry weather as we head towards tuesday. notice the fire danger index for tomorrow. onshore wind and a lot of cloud cover things. not looking too bad, but watch what happens tuesday. elevated fire danger, especially across those inland hills near where the corral fire is burning as we see a pivot to our temperatures as well, the heat risk index by tuesday vaults into the moderate to major category for the bay area. widespread 90s away from the bay and out towards solano county. you're looking at temperatures climbing into the 100 degree range. all of this starting tuesday last through thursday. coming up, we'll talk about when the peak temperatures arrive and more on that wildfire smoke, which continues to move around the b

all the way into the altamont pass area.ave got all the supercommuters traveling out of tracy getting through there to at least north flynn and now you have got this backup because of this accident. that's going to connect with those delays and probably cause a pretty big problem for anyone commuting say towards the dublin interchange. but only one lane is available and unfortunately, again, one person did die so there's an investigation under way right now. this is going to take some time to clear out of lanes. use alternate routes in the meantime. potentially a.c.e. rail could be the option if you have that for your commute through here. if not, things might be a little bit backed up or maybe you can wait a little bit before you hit the roadways kind of tough to find alternate routes through the altamont pass area. bay bridge toll plaza, that's getting backed up too for traffic heading into san francisco. >>> time right now 6:22. this is not something you see every day. a wedding. yeah, this happened at the ballpark. the h

now. 580 back at the altamont pass really jammed because of that continuing issue over at north phelan avenue road, the off ramp, i believe is fully open. and so is the lanes. as you pass out of the altamont pass, the backup because of a crash being handled with a big rig off the roadway. but here, 580 moves smoothly. we'll check the bay bridge because the metering lights are on. 612 on your friday morning, the futures show that the markets will open lower, but not much lower. this is not bad considering we just got news 272,000 jobs were added to the american economy in the month of may. that's a much bigger number than anyone was expecting. and remember, big numbers are bad when it comes to interest rate cuts. they don't come if a lot of jobs are added to the economy, nvidia's stock splits ten for one at the end of trading today, that will make the santa clara company's shares worth a 10th of what they were. the company stock hit a record high of more than $1,200 a share this week. now, with the split, the shareholders will then hold ten times as many shares, so it's a wash for anyon

we've got some hotspots coming into the altamont pass this morning. westbound 580 there and south 880, just a pocket of slowing south of 92. reed? >>> all right, let's talk about hotspots in the weather as the heat bears down on all of us fire season is our reality. and there are repercussions to talk about this morning. look at this fire drop. the water drop from a helicopter. this was along the road in san jose. a fire jumped the brush and burned a couple of outbuildings and it happened yesterday afternoon. in fact, this one spread to a two alarm fire ending with one person having to go to the hospital. that was in san jose. let's jump up to the north bay now. same situation up there. multiple brush fires broke out near petaluma. right there at the road's edge. the fires torched a lot of locations along old adobe reed and firefighters got out there and they quickly knocked the flames down. they used air and ground resources and luckily, we're glad to tell you this morning, no structures were damaged in this one. and we learned a lot because crews sa

the greenville fire burned 44 acres right along the altamont pass and five 8-80. the fire started just before 11 today, and firefighters stopped the spread within an hour. containment is up to 65% at this time. no one was hurt in the fire. there's no word yet on how it started. it's been a busy week for firefighters in alameda county and beyond. today's fire is the fourth grass fire in the altamont pass area. just this week. two fires started monday evening. both are under control now. so is the corral fire that burned towards tracy and san joaquin county. one week ago. at 14,000 acres, it's the state's largest fire so far this year. there are new details about the teenager who was shot to death in san francisco's dolores park this week. our media partners at the san francisco standard report, the teen has been identified as 19 year old luis manuel arguello inglÉs. he was a lowell high school graduate and san jose state university student. police say he was shot multiple times wednesday night. the family of his started a go fund me page, saying in part, luis was a

i just checked the altamont pass which is known to be gusty. >> it is gusting around 30 miles per hour at this 11:00pm hour and around the livermore by the valley, it's in the single digits. so here are the current wind speeds. winds have backed off, not as strong as yesterday. so that was really the challenge yesterday, especially with the lack of daylight in the evening. so today they had a lot during the day to make those water drops and contain the fire, make those lines. so current wind speeds you can see san jose 5 miles per hour, 8 miles per hour. but east of livermore notice that purple and red that indicates the 30 mile per hour range. so still gusty around the area. but it will be a much more favorable weather once again tomorrow because we do have the system to our north in the pacific northwest. now we're going to catch the tail end of this and what it's going to it's going bring us some cloudy skies and the strong onshore flow. so it will be another breezy day tomorrow, but the temperatures will be cooler. so tomorrow is really the last day for that because we could see mo

this is near the altamont pass on patterson pass road.at before it threatened those homes, and it burned about 100 acres. well, it is certainly so concerning because i feel like these fires are starting earlier and earlier this year. we've got some hot temperatures headed our way. we do. and that dries out the vegetation even more. and in even just a little bit of a wind with this high heat and that fire danger really increases significantly. and as we're starting out this morning, it is all clear as we're heading out. but we are under a microclimate weather alert due to the high heat. but we're also dealing with all these fires that we've had, and some of that smoke is drifting into parts of the coast and the bay with moderate air quality today. it's also been moving down to the south bay, where we're also looking at moderate air quality. and if you're sensitive to that, if you have breathing problems, you should definitely limit your time outside. and we're going to see temperatures heating up quickly. right now it's in the upper 50s in

you've got the altamont pass here heading into tonight. look how those winds pick up once again. so really it looks like the opposite of what we had last night, where the wind speeds came down. they will be going up during the day tomorrow as a weather system passes through the bay area. gusty conditions throughout the day on monday, but for now we're looking at relatively mild temperatures. so the fire threat index for tomorrow with the onshore wind shows high humidity levels. but everything changes by tuesday as the heat settles in. look how this map begins to change. specifically out where the corral fire is. we'll be looking at humidity levels below 25% and increasing fire danger around the entire bay area, especially those inland hills. as we head into tuesday. so monday, no heat to talk about another day like today. but by tuesday everything changes. this is when a heat advisory sets up for the north bay, inland, east bay and san jose southward. and that area you see here in the fuchsia color out towards solano county. that's an excessive heat warning where temperatures cou

about at the top of the show in alameda county, where a new fire is burning at this hour near the altamont passhere is a live look right now at the patterson fire. it is burning along patterson pass road. fire officials say they believe this fire has burned at least 15 acres of vegetation so far. now, this is just over the county line from where the corral fire is burning. let's bring in once again our chief meteorologist, bill martin. bill, we've been talking about those winds all weekend and into today. how are the conditions looking right now for firefighters. >> well that smoke plume, smoke plume pretty much tells the whole story, right. that thing is not where this plume goes vertical okay. yeah, it's or tilts, but this thing is laying down flat and running along the ground. so you've got wind speeds out in this area up around 25, 30 miles an hour. temperatures kind of not that it's, you know, in the 80s, but it's not that warm upper 70s humidity is high. but what tom mentioned earlier in his his very interesting story, well, is this dry brush. this is where you get your fires, man. this i

that, of course, is very well known to funnel some of that very strong wind through the altamont pass through some of the gaps there in those areas. and right now it's 72 degrees. we are still getting gusts at about 25mph. and at the time that the fire started, we were getting 25 to 45 mile per hour gusts and humidity is also higher as we go into the rest of the day. we're still going to see some of those winds gusting coming in onshore, and it's going to continue to push those winds around that area. and a closer look at the tracee area, as well as the corral fire, where that has been spreading in the hills, we are now once again getting more containment thanks to more favorable weather conditions. but we are still getting some gusty winds as we go throughout the day. humidity this afternoon will be running in the 50 to 60% range, but the danger here is tomorrow. in the next couple of days, as the humidity drops, fires tend to spread a lot more quickly under lower humidity as well as some of the more gusty winds. here's a look at our high temperatures and what we're expecting today.

as you head up towards the altamont pass, you can see the plume there rising off to the east of livermoregenerally burning in an area where it's just really just unmaintained brush off to the south and around 580, you see the plume 67 degrees in dublin, back closer to the fire. we're still seeing 70s and even some 80s farther inland. but look at that wind speed. it's out of the west southwest at 17 around livermore and over the hills. we're seeing gusts 20 to 30mph. that's what's pushing that fire off to the south and east. but this time of day, near the warmest time of the day, those peak winds to which typically arrive around mid afternoon to early evening, those two combining with those very dry hills to show you now that we're in june, grass fires can be pretty common around the bay area this time of year. now closer to the inner bay, we've got low 60s in oakland as the sea breeze takes hold higher humidity levels, bayside and comfortably cool closer to san francisco. you can see the air quality tomorrow. moderate around the coast, in bay and into san jose. generally though, nothing t
