we will bring in alyssa harrington from one of the picket lines in union city. >> reporter: good morning outside the elementary school where teachers are wearing red and they are gathering this morning for another day on the picket line. they are picketing for the ninth day when they should be in school, and they say they want to be in school but they have not been able to reach a deal with the district. both sides are hoping to come to an agreement during today's session because the district did say it does not want to negotiate over the weekend. here is some video from last night when negotiations went late into the evening, ending at 11 pm. it was a total of 12 hours. no deal. the chief of staff joined the meeting, it was outside the alameda county office of education to show support for the bargaining team. the teachers union wants a cost- of-living adjustment. 3.7% cola increase, and 3.26% for the coming school year. the district has said this will force them to make the cuts if they agree to those numbers because this could include closing an elementary school, layoffs, and elimina

alyssa harrington, ktvu fox 2 news. >>> happening today, danville police will be on campus at another school at the unified school district because of a threat. the student discovered threatening graffiti in the girls bathroom in danville yesterday. it read, "shooting tomorrow, my brother said 5/21/18, today's date." they don't want to take any chances. the school district said, we understand how disturbing such reports can be and respect that a number of families may choose to keep their children home from school. >>> a freelance journalist whose home was raided by san francisco police will ask the court to give him back his cameras, computers, and cell phones that were seized by the police. the police are defending the raids as part of an investigation into the "illegal release of a preliminary report about the death of the former public defender." the raids were also revised by search warrants. he is protected by a california law. he sells news information and video to the media, three tv stations including ktvu but the report. >>> turning to sports, the san jose sharks fighting to

alyssa harrington has the story. >> reporter: this is the first strike in the new haven unified school district which includes schools in hayward and union city. about 600 teachers are rallying outside of 12 schools and in front of the district office. they are demanding higher pay and better working conditions. >> [crowd noise] >> reporter: teachers dressed in purple rallied outside their schools. members of the teachers association on strike after officials failed to reach an agreement with the district over the weekend. >>> breaking my heart. it is really, really hard. i don't think we have ever been at a point this low, and that is hard for all of us. it was hard for us on friday when we said good-bye to the kids. it was hard for the kids. >> reporter: the main sticking point, teachers want a 10% raise over two years. the district said they can not afford that and is offering a 1% raise and a one time 3% bonus. they are contingent if they get more state funding. he said the district is already making millions of dollars in cuts. >> we're dire. we're a declining district. we have lo

alyssa harrington is at the district headquarters, this is where negotiations went late into the night, but right now, there is still no deal. >> reporter: yes, both sides definitely want to come to a conclusion, we are just weeks away from the last day of school. the bargaining session ended at 1 am, it went for 12 hours total. some teachers waited outside in the cold, hoping for good news. they were not allowed inside the building but said it was important for them to be there and support the bargaining team.>> our bargaining team is very excited, to get back to the table, we want to be able to get a fair contract and get back in the classroom so that our students can finish their year. our students can have their graduations and promotions and be able to finish the end-of-the-year activities. our seniors can get the transcripts and be able to make sure that they are going to be able to still receive admissions into their desired colleges. >> reporter: some educators also held vigils outside the home of school board members, the district is offering a one- time 3% bonus and a 2% pay
