. >>> good evening, i'm ama daetz. breaking news. a fire in redwood city has led to a shelter in police -- shelter in place. it started at sims metal management, a metal recycling facility. we're live with a look at the response. reporter: for the last several hours, seaport boulevard has been shut done has fire crews continue to battle the fire, and right now in the dark you can see the thick plume of smoke is continuing to push up into the sky. for the last couple of hours we have been lucky that the winds have blown that plume over the bay, so we can't smell the smoke right now. but that shelter in place order you just mentioned is in effect for residents in this area. that thick tower of moch spewed into the sky for much of the afternoon. there's not much concern that this fire will spread, so the call never rose before a single alarm fire. but crews are having a tough time dousing the flames because it's burning in a scrap metal pile and it's not easy to get to the core of the flames. >> they're using cranes to lift the metal of

i'm ama daetz. that shooting happened early this morning on sixth and jesse streets where police spent most of the day investigating. cornell bernard is live with details. reporter: police still have a lot of questions about the shooting. one woman is dead, another in critical condition tonight. their names have not been released. we can tell you it happened in this very parking lot on jesse street. the suspects are still on the loose tonight. >> crime scene investigators combing over the parking lot on jesse stretch, searching for evidence. it's where one woman was fatally shot and killed, another woman was chit wounded. she was taken to the hospital. police say it began with a fight. >> some sort of confrontation that led to a shooting. at this point this is under investigation. >> ken barrows heard the commotion. >> i heard the argument. wasn't originally al that bad. wasn't that -- didn't get my attention, and then i heard the gunshots and that's when i looked out the window. >> he and other nei

i'm ama daetz. we have more live from the scene of that fire, lisa? eporter: ama, we're here on sacramento street and this fire is now out but as you can see behind me, a lot of firefighters are still here. more than 100 firefighters responded to this fire that broke out around 2:30 this afternoon. this video was taken from a woman who lives in the neighborhood. smoke and flames billowing out of the building. they heard popping coming from between the two buildings before the fire started. fire officials are not sure where and how this fire started but it damaged two businesses. the clothing stores and italian bar. >> i was just concerned because i saw people coming out of the building and people were just shell shocked. they were so scared. i was a little nervous and looked like it was traveling quickly, so that's why i was nervous. >> orange flames coming out of the roof and as the firefighters exposed more of the roof, more orange flames were coming out of the top. >> reporter: and it took less than an hour to knock down this fire. a large crane was
