good evening, i'm ama daetz. the shooting happened yesterday evening in east oakland near 66th avenue and international boulevard. sergio quintana is live at children's hospital where the young girl was taken. reporter: i talked with the mayor and she says anytime a child is a victim of street violence it becomes a high priority for her administration, and for the police department. it has now been about 24 hours since that eight-year-old girl was shot in the neck. she remains here in critical condition at oakland children's hospital. as police him to the crime scene for evidence in the shooting, the neighborhood quickly learned a child was a victim of the drive-by. >> not sure which kid it is yet. but i know there's a couple kids outside that is usually here. if it was a kid, that mean they was walking with m. else. >> in fact the eight-year-old victim was playing on her front porch when she was hit by stray gunfire. he eight-year-old brother was just feet away but was not hit. according to our media partner, th

thank you for joining, i'm ama daetz. the shooting triggered a rollover crash and police are still searching for the shooter. sky 7hd shows us the scene right now. investigators are coming through the vehicle and the freeway for any evidence. the chp says it began receiving calls just before 1:00 this afternoon that gunfire from a second vehicle struck the driver of the bluford prior to that car crashing. the investigate shut down all eastbound lanes of 580. backing up traffic for miles. those lanes just re-opened 20 minutes ago. lillian kim is at the scene with the latest on the investigation. reporter: eastbound lanes re-opened within the last half hour. investigators have been here all afternoon trying to reconstruct what happened. although the scene is clear, you can still see some damage left behind. >> witnesses say the blue ford suv rolled over multiple times before hitting the center divide. richmond police say the male driver lost control after being shot by someone in another car while going east on 580 in richm

i'm ama daetz. right now in san jose, firefighters are trying to put out a fire burning at a landfill. they expect to be there through the night. it started around 4:30 this afternoon at the zanker road sanitary landfill. the fire is burning deep inside 15-foot-high mounds of mulch and sawdust. they're having to stick fire hoses inside the mounds to help contain it. another challenge? the only water source is a half mile away from the top of the landfill. fire trucks have to fill up water at the hydrant, and then race back to the top of the hill. the wind has also accelerated the fire, as well as spread hot ash and embers through the surrounding field. >> we have had embers that have come from this far and set several smaller companies. we had a company that was in route that had to pull off to put out a smaller fire. that's important for us. if we can get a fire when it's small, it won't become such a large fire. >> it's been a long day for the san jose fire department. this is at least the tenth f
