. >> i'm ama daetz. since we first brought you this story at 5:00 we talked to bart and the person who helped blow the lid on this staggering amount of pay. >> lisa amin gulezian is live in san francisco with new details. >> the janitor works here in the embarcadero as well as all of the downtown stations. he logs about 114 hours a week. the researcher who discovered all of this says the janitor is not to blame, but instead bart is. tens of thousands of people ride bart. they come through the stations and leave, you name it, behind and it is up to these guys to clean it up. this janitor makes $50,000 a year. but another raked in $162,000 in overtime. his total compensation for last yary totaled more than $276,000. researchers at the nonprofit transparent california say bart's compensation packages are outrageous and irresponsible. >> there is no reason to be paying their employees so much more than what the average person gets. >> the average janitor in california makes $28,000 a year. bart spokesperson

. >> and i'm ama daetz. >> let's turn now to union city where a seven-hour standoff ended peacefully after not one but two people surrendered at a home where a woman says she was held hostage for days. a standoff began just after 8:00 this morning in union city. melanie woodrow joins us live with the late details. melanie? >> reporter: well, all of this began with a call from in a woman to 911 at whether about 8:20 this morning. take a look at some of the video from earlier today. you can see here dozens of union city police officers, also s.w.a.t. teams from fremont and newark, they arrived here within minutes. the woman who called 911 had told police her ex-boyfriend was holding her hostage in her own home for two days. police officers say though when they arrived she was initially uncooperative. she says she didn't really want to tell the officers that man's fame and she would only say that he was in the home alone and armed with some type of gun. law enforcement was negotiating with who they believed was that woman's ex-boyfriend when another man called police and said he was com
