amanda lamb is following this case and joins us with what happened in court this morning. amanda? >> reporter: renee, like you said, this is terrifying. a stranger breaking into your home with a weapon. prosecutors contend this break- in was just one of a series of crimes that the suspect carried out the night she was murdered. several cars were broken into, and at least one other, at the murder. traveon smith says he was breaking into cars that night with his first two codefendants and at first detectives didn't know for sure that the break- ins were definitely connected to the murder of melissa huggins jones but they did suspect that they were. >> the murder was an apartment that was broken into, and the apartment that was broken into, there was another apartment right under under the victim's apartment that was also broken into, and in the immediate area of that were several cars that were broken into. and it all happened on the same night. >> police tracked down smith and the other suspects by locating a stolen laptop by one of the burglaries on craigslist. and other testimony
