okay, amanda eakin. all right. thank you, mayor breed, for your vision and your leadership on safe, inclusive and equitable streets for san francisco. good afternoon, and thank you, everyone for being here. i am a firm believer, like the mayor, that we need to pause and celebrate our successes. an important milestones like this, i believe, mayor, it was on bike to work day this year, may, which is just a few months ago. that you directed the sfmta to install this quick build project in front of city hall. so we are thrilled to announce the completion of the doctor carlton b goodlett place. quick build project, which is a major milestone to a connected san francisco for everyone. biking. rolling. now we know as mayor said that this very location where we were standing saw 25 collisions between 2019 and 2024 right in front of the heart of civic life in san francisco. and that is an unacceptable number. with this project, like with 17th street, like with third street, like with the battery sansome quick build, like wi

eakin apart. and one of the reasons why i have been so grateful to serve her in her term on this board. director gina, perhaps you'd like to add some comments. yes, sir. amanda, i'm honored to acknowledge you, director eakin, for your outstanding service to this board and the and county on francisco. i'm a san francisco born and raised so that that carries weight. during your tenure on the board, you're one of san francisco's strongest advocates for street safety. you would say achieving vision zero is the floor, not the ceiling. and you were the person that got us talking about a vision for our streets that exceeds safety. and that is one that is joyful, delightful, safe and achieved by a protected network for walking and biking and rolling. you wanted to achieve this vision, though, and this is something that's very unique to you and something that's beautiful about you, amanda. through deep collaboration with community and its and all the folks that make up our city, and a few ways you did that as, as director tomlin mentioned, was by creating the vision zero subcommittee. that was something that you're incredibly passionate about, and you made sure that

i want to channel a bit of director amanda eakin and talk about sort of the context of where we are as, as many of you probably know, san francisco is the sfmta's mission is to the safe and efficient movement of people and goods. we are trying to make sure that people who are biking on this corridor are safe. we want to make sure that we are trying to encourage sustainable transportation modes. we have a goal to try to have 80% of trips be on sustainable modes like walking biking and transit and rolling. and then as part of the strategic vision, we also are trying to support the economic vitality of san francisco and i think one one interesting thing is that, you know, before i was on the board as a, as an advocate, one side running when the center running lanes came out, it was an attempt to make biking safer and save lives on the corridor to, to prevent injuries and also to to try to save as many parking spaces as possible, which is what the agency heard from the merchants. what? and i think at first it was there was a lot of opposition from all sides. and now, after a year, i think
