ama, let's take a look at the avalanche danger today. >> so this is coming from the avalanche center. the sierra avalanche center. and they basically are saying that there is considerable avalanche danger today. you can see it shaded in orange. so it is on a scale of 1 to 5. and three is considerable. so this is once again the back country. and the concern is that you have new snow and gusty winds on top of weak layers of the snow. and so the danger will remain elevated is something to keep in mind, especially if you're going to be in the back country. here's a live view from our zephyr cove camera. and there is snow on the ground. snow capped mountains anywhere from three to about 19in of snow fell in the last 24 hours. the sierra snowpack is going up. it's now 42% of average heavy snow is coming this weekend. 7 p.m. tomorrow until 4 a.m. sunday. winter storm warning is going up 1 to 2ft of snow with those gusty winds, it is going to be difficult to impossible to travel and the avalanche danger will remain elevated. that storm is a level two for us here on saturday and it could bring

i'm ama daetz and i'm dion lim. placer county investigators say it all started with a report of a carjacker. take a look. the shooting happened this morning at the olympic village in near the ski resort state park officials say an officer fatally shot a person who was armed with a knife. that person was pronounced dead at the scene. the incident started at about 10:00, when a state park officer tried to pull over a car involved in a carjacking in tahoe city. investigators say the driver sped off in that car until it crashed. >> my understanding on the collision is that it was our officers vehicle collided with the uh- subject's vehicle. >> this is the second notable incident in the area this month. back on january 10th, a man was killed and three others injured when an avalanche struck at the resort in the east bay. >> mayors from alameda and contra costa counties met with county supervisors and law enforcement agencies today, all of it in an effort to tackle crime together. abc seven news reporter anser hassan spok

i'm ama daetz this whole thing started in tahoe city around ten this morning. police say they were responding to a carjacking and tried to pull the vehicle over. it ended with a crash near the olympic village inn and the suspect got out. they say he was carrying a knife. according to california state parks. a state parks police officer tried to stop a vehicle that was involved in a carjacking in tahoe city about seven miles away. the chase ended in a crash here in the palisades tahoe parking lot. it's unclear why the chase led here. the state park spokesperson didn't have any information on that or who this driver was, state parks says. after the crash here, the driver got out of the car armed with a knife. that's when the state parks police officer shot him. >> officers provided medical aid to the subject, but despite their efforts again, the subject succumbed to his injuries and the public again is avoid is advised to avoid this area as the investigation is ongoing. >> the shooting happened in a corner of palisades tahoe's parking lot, not immediately near th
