amber vanhecke was on a solo road trip recently in the grand canyon....found herself on a remote dirtogle maps told her to make a turn -- that ended up being the wrong one.. the 24-year- old called 9-1-1 and got an answer. amber vanhecke/hiker:"for about 5 seconds, he said, what's the nature of your emergency - i said please help me. because i was panicking, and crying and sobbing, i was a mess. then it clicked off. that was the first moment i felt true panic." (grant) she had 30 to 40 bottles of water -- a few pounds of dry fruit -- and decided to wait for rescue.... on day two -- she built an sos out of rocks... on day three - she built a bigger sign that said help. on day four -- a car drove right by her -- but she couldn't wave it down... on day five -- she hiked miles until she got a faint cell signal and made a 49 second call that saved her life... soon after a rescue chopper found her car -- and a note that she left describing which direction she hiked...then they found amber walking back toward her car... she was checked out at the hospital...and is no fine.
