ktvu amber lee is on the scene. we are at 1101 embarcadero where schnitzer steel is located. firefighters are on the scene. we can see them spraying water on the debris pile. you can see a crane on the edge of your screen. from news chopper 2, we can see the massive evident to put this fire out with plenty of water. i just got off the phone with the fire battalion chief and he is telling us that what is burning is scrap metal there is no shelter in place at this point, no other advisory. we see plenty of cranes working to separate the scrap metal to get to the fire. to give you another perspective, another fire burned here two and a half years ago. this ace shredding facility for vehicle, appliances and other items. and that fire, two and a half years ago, the cause was spontaneous combustion. we don't know at this point ways causing this. incident commanders are telling us he is too busy to give us a lot of details. that is what we know. we can see a lot of cars parked out here. we do not see a lot of people out here. we will, can, bring that to you when we have more. report

ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 and 6:00. we can tell you firefighters, pouring water on the smokey debris at a steel plant, have the situation under control. amber lee live where she has been asking if the smoke is tobgsic. >> we are at 11:01. home of the field. when we first got here there was a lot of smoke that stung and there was the skies that were smokey. now, as you can see, the sky is clear and the fire is mostly out. we are going to show you video from chopper two. the fire broke out at 4:14 this afternoon. it is a facility that recycles medal including old vehicles. i just spoke with oakland fire battalion chief. he says the fire likely started by an item that was inside of the vehicles such as a battery. as for the smoke, there does not appear to be toxic levels high enough to create a health hazard. air quality management direct had a unit out to look at it. a worker here at the scene told us dozens of employees were here at the time of the fire. that there was no injuries and everyone is accounted for. firefighters say it took less than an hour to put out the fire. reporting live here in west oakland, amber lee channel 2 news. >>> a pow
