atv is amberly is at fisherman's wharf tonight and the sale of fish has gone way down because so many restaurants are now closed because of the pandemic. >> reporter: that's right, frank , the lights are on here fisherman's wharf of the restaurants are closed. one of the few things we notice of any signs of life is a wholesaler who quickly found a way to adapt to the new challenges. fisherman's wharf looks like an unused movie set, a mere shadow of its pre-pandemic self. this electronic sign beckons, but there is no audience. at pier 45 a fish wholesaler is finding a new way to keep his doors open. >> is actually pretty big one. >> reporter: halibut, a fresh catch from a local fisherman. normally the owner of water to table cells solely to bay area restaurants. with the shelter and place order they closed and the market was suddenly gone overnight. >> i'm pretty scared that we lost all of our restaurant business. but we immediately pivoted to home delivery. we reached out to our community and our email contacts. >> reporter: and started building a new clientele for retail customers. f

ktvu amberly is live in the city she is helping. >> reporter: a neighborhood fixture for almost 30 years, she tells me she was inspired when she heard about a woman who made soup to help her neighbors. preparing chicken chow mein with vegetables is a labor of love for kim dang, owner of eric's restaurant in san francisco. >> after grocery every morning at eight o'clock, then i come back and i cut the vegetables and then we put the food -- >> reporter: while keeping a restaurant open for take-out only, kim is also cooking free hot meals for the most honorable. her daughter is helping her connect with those in need through social media. >> the goal is to keep seniors and the immunocompromised in the sick at home, where they should be and to keep them safe. there three weeks ago kim delivered food personally when it was 15 meals a day. she told me she loves the reaction from the people who receive the help. >> they say hi kim, thank you. i'm so happy. i am very happy. >> reporter: now it's grown to 45 meals a day, five days a week. neighbors have volunteered to help deliver the food. >> no
