ambrose here are the same ones across the baltimore, the cost are a big issue. this place had 300 students and now it's half of all of that. in archdiocese of baltimore there's 31,000 students taking advantage of the christian based education but costs are a big challenge and without them, there would be even a bigger cash burden on the public school system. you think about it. all the children currently enrolled in catholic schools if they were thrust on to the public ones, it would cost an extra 380 million for taxpayers to support that increase. in the way the state is saving that money right now. supporters say many catholic schools mean so much to the community as a whole as it does to the children getting the religious education. the supporters are worried about these closures and praying they don't happen. >> st. ambrose church as well as the school is the beacon on light in the park heights community and that would be a sad day if that happened. >> reporter: it's happened before, since 2002, the archdiocese has closed 16 schools. some are guessing that n

ambrose catholic school where everyone is probably on edge today.morning, joel. >> reporter: that's right, patrice. we are inside, these are the halls that so many staff members have been for so long. oob juicily thobviously we the e comfortable with students here. we now that changes are coming for a while. it doesn't make it easy when we're at this. >> it's not easy but we take it day by day. >> reporter: when it comes to what to expect and how you guys are dealing with it here, what are you telling parents? >> we're telling parents that they will know tomorrow afternoon. when the children come home, there will be letters in the backpack letting them know what the decision of the archdiocese has been. >> reporter: we know that enrollment is an issue, what has been the enrollment. >> in 2000 we had 230, and currently we have 160 students on roll. >> reporter: that is one of the issues. we will be talking to you soon. we will talk about what could happen next and what will happen to the students here if case this is one the locations that are closed
