chipmakers, amd and texas instruments reporting after the bell, amd higher, now basically flat in after-hours trading, saying fourth-quarter revenues will be between 4.4 and $4.6 billion higher. the full year revenue will grow by 65%, upgrading a forecast of 60%. the datacenter sales, doubling from a year earlier. there are signs especially in the texas instruments case that there is concern about what the demand is really like. texas down 4.5%, it gave a forecast that was in line with estimates for the coming quarter but it has experienced growth. the question is whether that slows down. if you look at the stocks side-by-side, there are two different stories with amd and texas. texas is the white line. trading pre-much in lockstep with the philadelphia semiconductor index. the blue line come outperformance from amd when it comes to micro devices. eventually taking market shares from -- potentially taking market shares from intel. intel had a weaker earlier earnings season, amd coming out strong. we will look at that later. we need to dig into the demand picture. people placing orders for sem

i think amd will go higher while four others will go slightly lower. >> do you not want to be in the suppliers, you want to be in the others >> i wonder if we are missing a little bit here. guy mentioned a great point and i don't think i could be more eloquent all of those guys have conceded the leverage of supply for apple. apple wasn't very transparent for what their supply chain looks like iphone is about 50% of apple's revenues much who am i looking at apple. i am surprised the stock hasn't traded off more. i do expect amd and mvidia has been top in class for sometime texan, i'm with guy in that that price is bloated but its return on equity supports it. i think you are paying for a premium there. i would be waiting to get back into apple i would be looking squarely on them vis-a-vis the suppliers >> sounds like bonawyn thinks there is more downside to apple. >> i am in apple i think it hasn't sold off because of the 53 or 54 in services even though he is correct on the iphone numbers. nvidia is up 60% it seems to have bounced off its 100-day moving average i think it has more to

likes both chris, wanted to start with amd because we're used to these beats from amd, and lisa su onse >> that's a surprise, sara so 65% was kind of our bull case here and it does seem that they're going to hit that. and with good quality. meaning it looks like it's data center products, not let's say low-end pc that's going to get them there, with high gross margins. we like that a lot >> what's the take on texas' miss here? >> yeah, wilfred, so going on right now it's a little different than normal semis quarter in which both demand is playing but also supply is playing into the equation here when you're looking at analog, when you're looking at broad-based semi-conductor catalog companies like t.i., people are putting in hoards or orders right now t.i., although they have more fab capacity than many out there, they are not unlimited. and i think that that's what this report is coming up against. the limits of their available capacity >> so which is a bigger opportunity of the two for investors right now given this big dip we're seeing after hours? >> i like them both for the setup

>> what's wrong with amd amd is in the right. a lot of the chip names there's differentiation, steve mentioned before, micron he's 100% correct and those are memory chips and right now they have no pricing power and demand is incredibly weak western digital and texas instruments will struggle in that environment and you look at nvidia and you are talking about exposure to graphic chips whether it is nvidia or even to a certain extent amd any i think th those are the right chip names and overall it will be an impact from the smh declining from the 2 200-day moving average and that will have an impact on the s&p 500 itself because the chips are so incredibly important. semis really are what the transports used to be to the economy and to the markets so you need the smh to move above the 200-day moving average and you can selectively pick winners in the industry and that's what i feel i've done with my holdings of nvidia, amd and lam research >> part of the issue is is it more of a worrisome sign of the overall market like you just

amd, as an example, we're quite sure if amd had more chip supply and used the supplier, they would be more share. so certainly amd is one of the places we would go we're bullish on nvidia also, been a good stock this year. they're also constrained and right now going through a good cycle if had their gaming products, in addition to data center products which is what really drives the stocks and in that case, both of those companies would probably be putting up stronger results than they otherwise would right now if they could get more supply. >> one of the things we talk about with regard to the supply chain issue, chris is just how much the auto industry has been affected by this is that going to be part of the story for a while now for the chip shortages are we going to see the chips make their way back into the system, and how long do you think it takes before the whole supply chain issue for computer chips really starts to resolve itself is it next year? is it not until 2023 >> at this point, the consensus from the companies and customers we speak to is we don't get back to any de
