that takes place in amd's stock roughly every three years. this wave has produced rallies 84% of the time. that's money since the stock began trading all the way back in 1980 in other words, we've seen this setup 14 times before and it's worked on 12 of these occasions. that's what you call a high probability trade. that's actually the name for it. so first take a look at the daily chart of amd with larry projecting for what it might look like if the same pattern plays out this time. from the right -- from right about now through october the stock has been up 84% of the time during this period historically. what exactly does that mean? let's look through some examples of this pattern through the last couple decades check out amd's chart from 1999 through the first half of 2000 we know one swallow does not mean summer's here so the next chart shows the wave pattern for the last 20 years which each of the occurrences of the pattern so we can gain some perspective on what to expect this year. williams' wave cycle predicted an up move in amd from

intel to do certain things, was to be able to catch up to a company like amd. activist position, you know he's been busy lately starting a proxy fight with bath and body works a week or so ago this is interesting given the timing the stock had traded down a bunch, and i'm told that's when they had established their position newish. and again, it is a passive stake but something to keep an eye on, what may be one of the newer positions here from daniel loeb. >> it's probably a sign of confidence instead of a sign of trouble? >> sure. yeah i don't think they're trying to, you know, sink the trees over there and get amd to do anything not certainly in the likes of maybe what they wanted to do as it pertains to intel or some of the other activist positions they have. they obviously must like the job that dr. lisa su is doing as the ceo. look, loeb's a pretty active guy. just in general the way they trade in and out of stuff occasionally but this is just interesting to follow because it is one of the newer ones >> certainly scott thank you so much for bringing that

intel appears to be gaining market share over amd in the pc market and with cpus.e is improving helping share prices. that's why you see the discrepancy between micron and intel. i didn't even mention nvidia. you spoke about that with josh brown. that's the whole ai thing. >> i'm thinking of that, though, too, and the fact that when nvidia reported and met the moment, so to speak, that was deemed at that moment as not only a litmus test of sorts for the tech trade overall but the chips and now i just wonder because these are so distinctly different businesses whether we should think about micron as the latest litmus test for a space that, as we've said, has done quite well. >> i think that's an excellent point. marvell has more exposure to cars, intel, they're trying to work on their foundry business but they're more involved with lagging and pcs. you can't just lump them all together. that is an ai play, not many plays out there, nvidia is capitalizing on it being the first mover. and so that's why you're seeing such a discrepancy between all of these names. they'

now we're just going to buy amd.and hassle, and maybe representative in some respects of a stock that, you know, amd was, what, 80 bucks now it was, i don't know, the october lows, it was in the 50s. >> it was. >> and they saw that as an opportunity, and started buying it when it was down, and it was, what, in december, it was still in the 60s low 60s. and here we find ourselves, giving a little bit back today but on the doorstep of 80 bucks. >> one of the many investors who benefitted from the increase in the stock so far this year and to your point, $128 billion market value, versus intel, which is down 1% -- a little over 1% this year, and once-mighty intel has $107 billion market value, trails that of amd by $20 billion. we can all remember the days when the question was simply, why is amd even around, just to give cover to intel on the antitrust front? >> got to keep them alive so they don't come after you as a monopoly exactly. but also the stock, especially at the lows, but even now, it's really more in a norm

also given the fact the stock right now is near its three-year lows >> let's move on to amd.>> amd is a hold largely because the stock appreciated 50% year to date i like -- i love this sector but i'm concerned of the appreciation and the fact that they have the weakest -- among the weakest margins in their category they have a margin of 5% compared to the rest of the category of 30%. that's a big differential. i'm concerned given the strong appreciation year to date and how much that can continue going forward. i wouldn't encourage to add to this position, maybe hold, or if you made a good return on this investment take some profits off the table. >> enphase, which is a buy for you, ava this is a name that people always say is perfectly positioned to benefit from the energy transition, but the stock struggles, it's high beta, whatever you want to call it why would you pick it up here? >> again, the stock has dropped 40% in the last four months. that corresponded with a decrease in oil prices i think we have the fact that the european market will continue to buy solar energy
