meteorologist amelia segal. just how low are we talking tonight? >> we're talking about low temperatures in the teens and when you factor in the winds it will feel like windchill temperatures are below zero in some spots tomorrow morning. we showed you a live picture outside on our storm team 4 weather deck. satellite and radar also showing breaks in the clouds but it's those breaks those clear skies that are allowing temperatures to plummet as the sun goes down. so right now we're in the 30s and 40s. 42 in washington 34 in gaithersburg and 39 in manassas. a windchill right now around 30 to about 35 degrees. but tomorrow morning it will be frigid. windchills in many spots around or below zero. and that's only the first cold shot. the second cold shot arrives very late saturday. it sticks around sunday and even into parts of monday. through monday we'll have windchills below zero at times and near record cold is possible monday morning, pat. >> all righty. this cell phone video captured the fire that destroyed a house in mt. rainier this morning. >>

amelia segal live on the weather deck to demonstrate how quickly things can freeze out there. glad that you're not frozen but what's in ht bag? >> it's so cold that you can make ice cream outside this morning. if you're watching and you're an elementary schoolteacher, i'm sure you you've done this. i took a bag, i put skim milk, some vanilla extract and a little bit of sugar. typically you'd put this in another bag filled with salty ice cubes because that is going to lower the freezing point. but i was thinking it's probably so cold out here this morning that we can make ice cream in the bag without putting it in that ice and salt. so i've been shaking it out here for about the last five minutes. time to give it a try. i have two spoons, so i'll save the other spoon for tom. he wanted chocolate fudge. i said vanilla is the best i can do this morning. i do have to say, it's cold. winds on our storm deck really aren't an issue at least. let's see what it tastes like. it tastes like ice cream that you have in a root beer float where it gets ss nice and fizzy. so if you want do th

. >> let's go live to meteorologist amelia segal in upper marlboro with the storm team 4 byx 4. >> reporter: it is cold out here guys. the temperature now about 13 degrees with with the storm team 4 x 4. and when you factor in the winds, up to 15 miles an hour windchill temperature is below zero. feeling about 3 below zero. and as we work our way throughout the day, we continue to deal with these brutal windchill temperatures. take a look at the feels like temperature throughout the day. so by 8:00 a.m., everybody still have the windchill below zero. nearly 12 below zero in cumberland. as we work our way throughout the day, again it's not going to feel much better. by noon only feeling about 3 in d.c.. minus 2 in gaithersburg and then 5:00 p.m. tonight, we're looking at windchill temperatures to be anywhere from minus 5 to about 5 degrees above zero. more brutal windchills in the forecast for tomorrow. tom will have more on that coming up in ten minute. but for now, we'll acceptedsend things over to melissa. >>> outer loop at the america bridge, the left lane blocked. brand new crash popped

amelia segal is outside with a little more on just how strong these winds will be. amelia? >> the time period we're really looking at is going to be saturday night into sunday morning. during that time winds could gust near 60 miles an hour. take a look at the forecasted gusts. this is tomorrow morning. just breezy outside, not a big deal. lunch tomorrow still breezy. it's dinnertime 8:00 p.m. when we start to see wind gusts between 30 and 45 miles an hour. the wind are howling late saturday night into sunday morning. 7:00 a.m. sunday morning we could see winds gusting up to 50 to even 60 miles an hour and with winds that strong we could see some power outages across the area. and then winds start to die down throughout the day on sunday. so as far as the damage is concerned, if you can, avoid parking by trees because we could see some downed trees and can't rule out power outages, again, and this is only not shot of cold air in a string of many we were forecasting. >> quite a few cold days out there, high wind watch in effect into the day on sunday. >>> i'm david culvert i

amelia segal and i have been looking at this all day.e're talking about record breaking cold as we move into the rest of the weekend. >> i know for presidents' day. we're talking about a big pattern and change. we're experiencing it right now with the wind and cold temperatures. brutal arctic cold air being allowed to come down into our area from the north. and over the next week we're going to continue to see this patterning over us. another cold shot of air arrives saturday night into sunday morning. so if you have plans saturday evening, dinner plans, doug showed you the chance of snow. if you'll be out late we're dealing with windchills in the single digits and like you said doug it stays cold sunday and monday. the temperatures on the seven-day impressive i would say. >> yeah impressive for sure with the amount of 20s that we see out there. look at those winds blowing our flag at the station. you can see the trees blowing in the wind too. take a look at the temperatures high of 27 tomorrow. we get to 42 on saturday then look at this

let's go to storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal. >> as we head into this evening, the winds not that bad, but the temperatures by themselves just cold. here's a look at current windchills across the area. for the most part it's feeling like we're in the low 20s everywhere including washington winds right now about 5 to 15 miles an hour. as we head on into the evening and overnight hours if you're heading out, this is how it's going to feel. temperatures will feel like they're in the 20s until about 8:00 p.m. and then after that it feels like we're in the teens, by midnight feeling like it's 14 degrees. but this nothing like what we're going to be dealing with saturday night into sunday talking act extremely high winds and dangerous windchills. i'll have the latest impacts coming up in about 10 minutes, pat, but again, this evening we're not looking at the worst conditions. again, talking act windchill temperatures on into the evening, 2:00 a.m. temperature around 12 degrees. but saturday night, sunday morning windchills in spots could be as bad as 20 to 30 degrees below zero. so that

we sent storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal outside in the cold during the morning record-breaking cold. she did a little demonstration showing us how long it takes for things to freeze. it was even cold enough to make ice cream. >> i was craving that watching her this morning. >> weren't you? >> when ifls out there a few minutes ago, veronica you were telling me it's about 25 degrees warmer in terms of windchill than when she was out there. >> exactly. it was way low this morning. we get ready for the next system warming temperatures allowing us to transition from snow to rain but not all good because that rain i think will wash a lot of chemicals off the road so that as we get into the second half of the weekend it may cause some issues. but for a period of time during the storm, i do think that roads could become treacherous, especially after 2:00 on saturday. the snow that starts out it will be accumulating very quickly, an inch per hour. then we'll see the freezing rain, the sleet start to mix in with the storm and that means icy conditions by evening. so snow to ice, we're ta
