around america also fun. up in the shadows of vietnam, watergate included the humiliation of the office crisis. we never doubted america would make a comeback. in 1980, ronald reagan was elected president in our country in the world when is freedom that many people believed would never occur. [applause] in 2015 from before the president in our beautiful first lady took a ride down the trump tower, i said i was certain the american people still believed in winning and they still saw our land as a shining city on the hill. i was confident the united states of america would make another comeback it would be soon. what i could not have known known-while i was practicing law, years later, i would be serving as national security advisor who truly made america great again. [applause] i think it's safe to say that president trump has done more for the security of our nation in three short years than any president during my lifetime. [cheering and applauding] back in march 2019, i was privileged to be in the oval offi

which i guess makes me a supporter of keeping america great and an overseas support of keeping america great, but let's face it, it is a great country and all of us have a stake at keeping it that way. [ applause ] >> thank you very much. you know, one of the things i sdants in introducing you and should have is that you are a keen observer of american politics. i think you know american politics as well as any american. i should have mentioned that in the lead up. i wanted to start if i could with a question that's more political and maybe more focused on australia off the bat here. for 10 or 15 years, the general take on the connection between conservatives here in the u.s. and conservatives or liberals in australia was that they're different, you know. that in america where economic conservatives, you know, focused on economic freedom and the rest but we have this social element and in australia they don't have that. in some ways here the impression was, they're cooler in australia. the conservatives are cool in australia because they don't care about social issues. they care about

i think that america's system of government is a product of america's history. our system of government as a product of our history. you can't change the history and you should be reluctant to change the system unless you are absolutely confident that the alternative is an improvement. and i do not think there are any problems in australia that becoming a republic would fix. feeling for the monarchy waxes and wanes. obviously, there i think is universal admiration and respect for the queen. i think there is considerable enthusiasm for many other members of the royal family. from time to time, the human factor in all families is something that we might, i suppose, cheer or not as the case may be. but in the end, it is the system, not the individuals that we support. it is the office, not a officeholder that in the end counts. i don't think that the, i think, personal stuff that we have been reading about over the last few weeks is going to make any long-term difference to this wonderful institution. china and america, look, i think there is absolutely no doubt th

america's fortunes are on the rise, and america's future is blazing bright. the years of economic decay are over. [applause] the days of our country being used, taken advantage of and even scorned by other nations are long behind us. [applause] broken promises, job recoveries, tired platitudes and constant excuses for the depletion of american wealth, power and prestige. in just three short years, we have shattered the mentality of american decline, and we have rejected the downsizing of america's destiny. we've totally rejected the downsizing. we are moving forward at a pace that was unimaginable just a short time ago, and we are never, ever going back. [applause] i am thrilled to report to you tonight that our economy is the best there has ever been. our military is completely rebuilt with its power being unmatched anywhere in the world and it's not even close. our borders are secure, our families are foraging and our values are renewed, our pride is restored, and for all these reasons i say to the people of our great country and to the members of congress,

how about an america that works for seniors and social security for everyone and how about an america that is truly an america of equality, an america of equality for lgbtq people, for trans people for people with disabilities. someone told me the other night i need to say this, no matter how you walk or roll, there's got to be a place for you in america. an america where our children don't have to fear getting shot at school. an america where we don't have a president who embarrasses us every day, takes children away from their parents at the border. an america that reflects a good

we are giving america's best to america's best and last. this president knows that national security starts with border security. [applause] v.p pence: under the president leadership, we made historic investments to secure our border crisis of illegal immigration. mexico is doing more than ever before to secure our southern border, and apprehensions are down by 80% in the last 12 months. and have already started to build that wall on the southern border of the united states. [applause] [build that wall!] v.p pence: all, we are building it. we are building it. under this president's leadership, we have stood for law and order, in every single day, stood for those who protect and serve on the thin blue line of law enforcement, including the courageous men and women of customs and border protection and i.c.e.! [applause] climate change threatens every living thing on this planet. what truly scares me the most is every single time the scientists collect more data and do more analysis, the problem is worse than we thought, and we have less time than we thought. that means the urgency cannot be overstated. i am going to say something that is very controversial in congress, but i feel safe to say it here. how are we going to deal with this? hold on to your neighbor if you need to, not in a creepy way. no creepy way. ok. here it is. you ready? i believe in science. [applause] that's right. --anning [chanting science] i love it. i think that is my first ever science chant. i am going to increase by 10 fold the money we put into science. we have to innovate out of this problem. at the core has to be environmental justice. for decades in this country, this nation

immigration does not make america weaker. immigration makes america stronger.applause] yup.warren: and i have a plan for that. expandwe need to [applause] [applause] legal immigration. it is wrong. bringd to be able to families back together, including moms and dads who have been deported. [applause] sen. warren: we need a pathway to citizenship, not just for dreamers. dreamers are great, dreamers have moms, dads, grandparents. we need a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million people who are here to stay. what does it take to get a hold in america's middle? -- in america's middle class?hat does it take a family of three to have something solid to build on? the question asked in washington is where do we set the minimum wage to maximize profits for giant multinational operations? i don't want a government that works for giant national corporations, i want one that works for our family. bank of america was doing a favor for the u.s.overnment when it was told it should buy merrill lynch, is that right? brian: there was a scramble to try to stabilize the firms that were less stable, jp morgan, bear stearns, ourselves, and we couldn't stabilize, lehman brothers. we even looked at it as a company. david: at one point, the ceo of bank of america was leaving, and they needed a new ceo. how did they pick you? you were the general counsel. brian: at that time, i wasn't. i was general counsel for a short period of time. after that, i had a run in the commercial banking business and investment banking business. i couldn't keep a job, let's just say that. i had probably five jobs in one year. largely, we were doing deals and things were shifting around and it was interesting. the late summer, early fall of 2009, the ceo told the board he wanted to leave at year end. they went through a search process. it was something i told our board i will never leave you in the position to have to do. so i owe them a successor at all es,
