i begin my director's report, i'd like to take a moment to recognize that november is native american heritage month. this past wednesday, november first, mayor london breed hosted a celebration in partnership with the american indian cultural center in city hall, where four bay area native american community leaders were honored. so there is that. and then to start off this month's report, i'd like to share a few highlights from this past month. so from october 5th through october eighth, i attended the western museums association conference in pasadena, california, where i presented on a panel on monumental reckoning and shared insights about our work with our monuments and memorials, advisory committee and plans for our upcoming work with pulse check from october 12th to the 13th. i was in new york city, where i attended a race forward board meeting on october 12th. americans for the arts released their findings from the arts and economic prosperity six survey agency staff are reviewing the results and we hope to be able to share an overview and summary of our local findings with you soon o

we also recognize that november is native american heritage month and in a effort to go beyond land acknowledgments unable to return the land directly to the ramaytush oholone, public works is making this space available for use by indigenous groups for learning, connecting and teaching. we are honored to be joined by dr. jonathan [indiscernible] chair of ramaytush oholone and executive director of the ramaytush oholone. dr. cor dero. >> greetings everyone. in partnership with the city of san francisco department of public works, the ramaytush oholone humbly supported grant applications for tree plantings for the greening of marginalized communities which is our name for the city of san francisco. we now stand here in support of the realization of that vision, the opening of the street tree nursery. as native peoples our primarily responsibilities are care for the natural world and care for the people who reside in our ancestral homeland, especially marginalized communities. any project at intersection of ecology and equity counts as high priority for us so it

. >> also on display in that freestyle dance, xochitl, was your mexican-american heritage.w, in latin ballroom dances i want to focus on the latino portion of it and making it as accurate as i can. it's been a huge priority for me especially costumes and designing and just the background. they did a wonderful, wonderful job with the background in our free style. it's funny. i took val to his first dinner. that's where he saw the ofrenda. he was inspired by that aesthetic and that look. oh my gosh, if we could do this and execute it well with all the things, it would be so perfect. >> just the meaning of what it stands for and just her spirit of always kind of paying homage to the folks that came before her, whatever field she is participating. it felt right. >> that's awesome. i also know -- despite the four perfect score, xochitl, you came in with zero dance background. what advice would you give people who are trying something new like that? not just dancing, but anything that feels challenging? >> anything that feels challenging at this point. i didn't think i'd make it

a result of the project, we did receive comments from several agencies, including the native american heritage commission, um, who commented about the effects to tribal cultural resources, uh, the california geologic survey about um, addressing, uh, geological considerations, concerns. uh, and there was also a consideration or a comment from sf puc about nearby infrastructure and, um, and those those are summary of the comments received on the notice of preparation in. so i guess the reason i'm asking that is that, um, like mr. labounty said, i, i look at this bridge, which is the cover on the cover of the draft eir as a gateway in to, uh, one of the neighborhoods that we're supposed to be paying very, very special attention to. and it is, in my experience, it's a signature element. and i look that i believe that the lefty o'doul bridge is actually a city landmark. and so if the lefty o'doul bridge is a landmark, i think that this qualifies lies in the same way as being worthy of being thought about in those terms. and it was why i was very concerned that there was apparently and this is where
