explorer american history tv every weekend on c-span3. the c-span cities tour travels the country exploring taking book story, tv and american history tv on thirdad every first and weekend of the month to learn about history and literary life. our tour continues as we visit detroit. bailey: the link of the city of detroit in the city of windsor is not just a link -- it is a story of two nations. there is 16 billion dollars of trade per year for both countries. rely on this, so it is a tremendously important part of our history and has been since pre-civil war. during prohibition, detroit was responsible for bringing in 75% of all illegal alcohol, and of course, our neighbors from the south, windsor in canada. was still city, usa, and we were not only transporting the raw materials, but the finished materials. there were days in the 1860's when you had 7000 to 10,000 waiting to be transported. they would have to wait for ferries to take them to canada or vice versa and that backlog made the conversation about a tunnel or a bridge take the n

on c-span's washington journal and on american history tv on c-span3. our look at bozeman continues as we visit with crystal, with the extreme history project as she looked to the over -- the history of the city. crystal: we are here in the extreme history project offices which used to be a historic brothel. extreme history is a nonprofit that is located here in bozeman. we bring history to the public in fund engaging and relevant ways. we do historic walking tours throughout the summer. we do a lecture series in the winter and we do workshops and other events around history. we try to get people to engage in history. what better way then in a historic brothel? in the 1980's, there was a real push to uncover more of the social history. in doing that, there is more to history than just wars and generals and all of those things that we have been studying as historians for many years. we started looking at women's history. we started looking at minority community history. we really discovered that there is so much more to tell within these narratives that w
