watch american history tv. this weekend on c-span three. next on american history tv. we visit a hiroshima nagasaki atomic bomb exhibit in washington d.c.. this american artifacts program was recorded in 2015. , hi i'm peter cousin a kick. and the professor of history and director of american universities nuclear studies institute. i began our institute back in 1995. institute was born in the middle east midst of a controversy. i was gonna be held at the air and space museum of the smithsonian. this was an attempt by the smithsonian to do an honest and balanced to is this exhibit over the decision to drop the atomic bomb. this was the 50th anniversary. in the midst of that, i decided with one of my students whose mother and grandmother survived the atomic bombing it hiroshima. her grandfather died in the atomic bombing. we decided we would do something special to commemorate the 50th anniversary. so we were gonna teach two courses here on campus and bring students here to kyoto and hiroshima. while we were planning, this the smithsonian exhibit got canceled. so in here

on c-span 3. >>> each week american history tv's american artifacts visits museums and historic places. up next inside the u.s. capitol's house wing where matthew wasniewski and curator farar elliott use artifacts and photographs to trace the women history in congress. >> the story begins with jennette rankin who is elected to the house in 1916 from montana she's elected to the house four years before women had the right to vote nationally. and in a way she's really a bridge from the sufferage movement to women attaining full political rights. she was active in a national women's suffrage organization. she helped women get the right to vote not only in montana but a couple states west of the mississippi and she runs in 1916. she's elected to one of montana's two at-large districts. part of her platform she's a passivist. she's sworn into the house on april 2nd, 1917, and the house has come in to special session, extraordinary session because the president that night, woodrow wilson, delivers a message to congress asking for a declaration of war against germany. this is the u.s. entry i
