wouldn't be surprised later if you're crossing the american legion bridge you see some of the fog. other than that a chill this morning and just another beautiful day. real busy, andrea, but this week we're sort of coasting. it's okay to get one of these weeks every now and then, right? temperatures will climb into the mid-50s by 9:00 so a chilly start. sunrise not until 6:58. 68 degrees by 1:00. then the afternoon looks fantastic with highs in the low to mid-70s. and less windy than yesterday. north, northwesterly winds running 5, 7, 8 miles an hour. so very comfortable and humidity levels are in check. there's the chill this morning. you see the 40s and these lighter blue colors are actually upper 30s that are popping across new england, pennsylvania, even not far from parts of west virginia and maryland right now are down in the upper 30s. that's a lot of little fog to form like in frederick where it's 39. half-mile visibility. we're seeing a little bit of fog in warrenton, the culpeper area but the bulk of the fog will be in the mountains and southwestern virginia this morning.

before i started searching for living american veterans of world war i france undertook a program where and they would award france's highest military decoration, the legionof honor to living veterans who had served on french soil in world war i, living american veterans. this was just more than pr. they really wanted to give this away so they undertook an intensive search. they ran ads in the fw magazines and american legion magazine national newspapers magazines and by the by the end of that getting about 500 the legions of honor to american men and women who had served on french soil in world war i. i should know note that they didn't just put it in the mail. they had an elaborate ceremony where they dispatched somebody from the french embassy to travel to wherever the veteran in question lives. they put on a ceremony and in a few cases french president jacques chirac himself presented the medal. there was also a big certificate and i don't know if you have ever seen the legion of honor but it's a very beautiful medal. i didn't go to the nep ceremonieceremonie s in the vast majority took place in 1998 and 1999 so by the time i started this would have b

that speech comes from -- that statement comes from a speech president eisenhower gave to the american legion i believe it was 1954, in which he was describing a story of four immortal chaplains, and that story, it's a story young people don't learn anymore, a lot of people don't know, i had the opportunity recently to speak at the american legion's national convention and i had the opportunity to share it and there were a number of older veterans, world war ii veterans of the who knew the four immortal chaplains. this was the u.s.s. dorchester hit by a torpedo and there were hit by a torpedo and was sinking and there were four chaplains, two were protestant, one catholic and one was jewish. they realized they didn't have enough life vests for the memorial on that ship and each of those four chaplains removed his life vest and gave it to another passenger. those other passengers were saved and those four chaplains stood together on the deck of the ship, singing and praying as the ship went down. and the point of the story is when the chaplains put the life vests on other passengers, gave thei
