the other part of land america -- of latin america -- we have to help the government of mexico win the war against the drug cartels. this is extraordinarily important. [applause] i helped pass the plan columbia as speaker. this was compounded by the drug cartels which was compounded by the the power in rural colombia. we need to be prepared in a different situatn with different complexities to help the government of mexico in every way we can defeat the drug cartels because it is a threat for everybody in the hemisphere to have a failed state in mexico and to have the drug dealers surviving. [applause] there is a broader pattern. the broader pattern is the question of how do we maximize our trade and how we maximize our ability to compete? i am botred when i see the chinese gaining ground in latin america because their government cares, their government is engaged and wants to maximize the opportunity to import and export from latin america. what changes in regulations and in tax laws -- what we need to do -- i will do everything i can to maximize our opportunities in latin america and

perhaps the first in america, certainly in san francisco. i have tapped the talent jane to my right, who has been working in the department of technology. he has been the leader in open data government efforts in our city. i would like him to now come into the mayor's office and be the point person for us to declare that we want that innovation in the heart of the mayor's office and helping the departments figure out how they can use innovation and how they can be connected with nonprofits like code for america, to get not only their data, but even their business practices more efficient and transparent. he is our chief innovation officer for the city. he will be working alongside me in making sure the mayor's office, working with the board of supervisors, has at its helm, with the proper authority, a corporate visibility, leadership in making sure innovation is a part of everything we do, both in leading the departments and our efforts to innovate ourselves out of the many challenges forthcoming. i think we need an innovation that the mayor

of a major corporation tried telling the bank of america's c.e.o. that you want him to refinance your mortgage try going to corporate headquarters and protesting against unfair mortgage practices because what'll happen and get arrested corporations have no accountability to the people whereas the government actually does no congressman can punish you for talking smack about him you can even trash him in a t.v. ad the point is this is just the latest example of the challengeable power of corporations in america and how they use it to screw we the people over to the point that we're not even allowed to speak the truth but there's a glimmer of hope here corporations like the bank of america know that their grip on power is slipping they be stupid not to know with all the action on the streets over the last four months the occupy movement and they know that social media is an important tool for organizing the people against corporate power just look at what happened during the arab spring that's why the bank of america is making this ridiculous effort t
