as he was telling his story to ameya , there was a lot of little details that i had never even known up and so it made me feel closer to my dad, made me understand him more. and it made me look back at his history with, through a different lens. >> reporter: with the help of her parents. >> we are just her psychic that support. >> reporter: ameya made a podcast about her grandpa's displacement. heard target audience? her peers. >> i can't imagine what the adults feels. i met an adult get. >> reporter: it turned out the adults at npr loved it. up against fourth-graders nationwide, ameya's podcast won npr student podcast challenge and her story was featured nationally. a story almost untold until ameya reached back a couple of generations and her family's history. >> none of us ever expected that would happen, you know. but it sort of takes it to a whole new level in terms of dementing his legacy . and that is really what i take away from it. two i think the story should just lie in wait. i think when we share it we are promoting, we are helping the next generation thrive. >> reporter:
