amy hollyfield is live at the childrens hospital in oakland. what about people with procedures today? they don't have the staff for those emergencies. this is just one hospital. this is happening all over the bay area. they have brought in temporary nurses. this is a massive strike. preparations have been going on for days 23,000 nurses expected to strike in northern and central california from kaiser, sutter medical center and children in oakland. it will affect 34 hospitals. the main issue is proposal to get nurses to pay more for healthcare. in any contract dispute each side has a talking point and counterpoints ready to go. >> i am very concerned about the agenda. they're here for patients, they talk about being here for patient safety. it's clear they are not. any organization that relieves to have 34 hospitals on strike at the same time does not care about the patient safety or care. >> it's always about the patients. that's why i come to work with back injury because it's about my patients. >> elective surgeries have been postponed. they
