i'm representing assembly member tom amiano's office. our office submitted a letter in opposition to the eviction of hanc. we can talk about the 30-plus hanc years plus at the site. we can talk about usage rates. there is actually quite a few issues, the nuances of recycling here in the city and county of san francisco. the one thing that seems to be getting a little bit lost is that hanc currently employs 10 people at the site, with regards to the native nursery as well as the recycling center. from a state perspective, california is suffering with an 11% to 12% unemployment rate. we are battling sacramento to close a proposed $25 billion deficit. the decision made regarding hanc and the eviction and the loss of 10 jobs, we should be clear, is an arbitrary and voluntary one. it is not mandated by budget cuts. it is not mandated from any loss of funding. it is not created by any sort of fiscal emergency or dynamic. it is a little bit beyond common sense and defying logic for 10 people -- let's humanize this quite distinctly -- 10 people
