. >>> and the untimely -- for some not surprising, the death of amy wine houaus. the news starts right now. >>> good evening, i'm garvin thomas in for diane dwyer. san francisco police announced a short while ago they have arrested two men in connection with the shooting of an 11-year-old girl last night. kim berry terry is live at san francisco general hospital, where the girl is being treated. i understand you have spoken with her family? >> we have heard from her family, who says she's in critical but stable condition here at san francisco general hospital. they say was shot in the shoulder area, very close to one of her lungs. the shooting happened at about 11:15 in the city's western edition neighborhood. a group of men were arguing when one of them pulled out a gun and started firing. one of those bullets went into an apartment striking a girl who was there for a sleepover with her cousin. the victim's uncle heard six to seven shots and his niece came out and said she had been shot. >> she was alert. she talked to me all the time while she was shot until the

amy hollyfield is live at sfo. amy, passengers had to come to the rescue. >> reporter: it was a very violent attack on the pilot. at one point, one of men said when you fly to san juan, i will have you killed. here are pictures that passengers took of the incident. this is once the men left the plane. it all started on the plane. one of the men was sleeping. it appeared he was drunk. he wouldn't wake up and buckle his seat belt. the pilot decided to pull back to the gate and asked one of men to get off the plane. the brother decided to get off, too. then they turned violent on the pilot. here is a description and reaction to his role in the incident. >> it was really erratic. suspicious. bothering other passengers. so we left to go to take off and then the pilot brought the plane back. we ended up going back to take care of it. it was natural. just doing my duty, that's all. >> reporter: here are the mugshots of the brothers that were arrested. jonathan and luis baez were arrested. pilot was first hit in the eye po

amy hollyfield is live from coastguard island in alameda. family members are hoping for a miracle here. >> they are. coastguard has covered 14 high school miles and one of family members says she was told that the search would be called off o at 2:00 a.m. on friday. the family is still hopeful that he was found, san ramon man loved this annual trip. he spent a year packing it. he organized the trip and his relatives say they are holding on to the possibility that he is on shore or he is floating and waiting for help. the coastguard says the search is a tough job, they are 500 feet in the air and trying to spot someone's head and it's tough to do. they say there is a they could find a survivor. john lee called his wife just before he climbed on board. >> he just wanted to make sure that we had a chance to speak with each other. he was going to be back on friday. >> came on shore and we have a scanner checking the shoreline for anybody that came ashore but the water temperature being as high as it is, it's certainly possible. >> seven u.s. tou
