amna: welcome. federal reserve cut interest rates today for the first time in four years with an aggressive move that lowers its benchmark rate by a half percentage point. it also said it intended to lower rates by a full point before the year is out. jerome powell said this is a good time to make cuts and boost the job market. >> the economy is growing at a good pace. inflation is coming down. we want to keep it there. that is what we are doing. amna: for more on this decision i am joined by the director of the hutchins center. good to see you. this decision to cut interest rates by a half a point, what is behind it. why now? >> the federal reserve realizes that the job market is softening. they are looking ahead and they don't want the job market to cool down anymore. they expect the unemployment rate to rise alone bit more. they think they are basically winning the war against inflation. a former obama advisor said this is as close to mission accomplished as you will ever hear from the fed. amna:

amna: can you be specific? do you want federal action similar to the law that you signed that goes after the algorithm specifically? gov. hochul: again, this isn't stopping social media platforms from doing what they do. we are saying, isolate young people 18 and under. leave them alone. let them go where they want to go, but don't be affirmatively designing algorithms that you have designed capturing places they've gone before and hold them captive throughout the day. i think that that's a reasonable approach and that the federal government does it all the companies will know the rules of the road in the state. it is difficult for them to say we have this policy here in this policy here, but they should be supporting an all-state approach if we can't get congress to act as well. it is in their interest. amna: some folks have said what you've done could be a blueprint for other places. have other governors been reaching out and asking questions about how it's going and how they can get this done? gov. hochul: w

amna: the president calling for diplomacy, is the u.s.our opinion to leverage those relationships, to stop that flow of weapons in? >> every channel that we have two those major players in this conflict, we are using, including some that i have had myself. amna: do you feel there has been progress in those talks this week? >> there's certainly verbal progress, we've heard a lot of commitments to peace that have not been followed through with actual termination of weapons supply. but we also have a responsibility, as you said, to think about airlift, airdrop, even if it's more expensive and less efficient. just as with gaza, we've had to take measures like that. amna: i know just yesterday there was a major announcement when it comes to a particular initiative about eliminating lead and low and middle income countries, huge increase in funding in partnership with other agencies as well. it's stunning to read that in some places the level of lead exposure to children is more than 10 times the rate of what we are also alarmed to see here in

amna: give me an example about how you learned.ication is something we have talked about across industries, how kids will find a way around it and it seems to be no perfect way even with states rolling dice rolling out age verification rules on social media there does not seem to be consensus on how to do it. how confident are you in your industry age verification? craig: i will give you an example. when dr. gottlieb was here and we got to know him under covid as an expert. look at the advent, for example, of home delivery. it is certainly a convenience item. we watched a period of about six months in 2020 all of that accelerated by a period of five-10 years as it relates to the ability of us to get goods and services delivered to our house. i don't know about your neighborhood, but sometimes you can't find a parking space because there is too many amazon trucks. that is the way of the world now. i was on a zoom call in 2020. my wife had called in an inst acart delivery to our house and i was on with industry people at a member of
