abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at the scene. amy? >> reporter: tank is leaking propane, it's right behind me. you can see it's flipped over right here at carlson boulevard in richmond, next to interstate 80. and there is a hotel right next to it. here is carlton boulevard. i called the hotel, the employee who answered the phone told me they have evacuated about ten people who were in the rooms facing the freeway right there next to where the tanker is. firefighters tell us they are testing the air and the leak and the air around that with some air monitors. they are describing the leak as a small one. >> like i mentioned there is a small leak, not enough for us to notice. we know the propane is odorized. had there been a larger leak, we would have an order as well as other signs we were able to be able to see with our monitors. we have up in of those. this is just a precaution. >> reporter: the truck was carrying two tank a total of 9,000 gal lops of propane. they are not sure how much was in the tank that flipped over and is leaking

abc news reporter amy hollyfield is live in richmond with the latest. amy?r behind me. it flew off of the freeway, rolled down that embankment and landed right there. this is on the exit ramp for central here in the richmond el serrito border. the driver did die. the off ramp is closed. he was westbound on interstate 80 passing a construction site when a chp officer who was at that site saw him passing and noticed his front tire was so flat he was driving on the rim. the officer was going to pursue him to see if he needed help. to see if he was drunk. just to see what was going on with this guy. but investigators say they don't even know if the officer had time to turn on his lights and siren. that this all happened so fast. >> they put out a little information over the radio. all of a sudden it was like, oh, hit the center divide. oh, went off the shoulder. >> reporter: this is westbound. this is the central exit. it is closed. i asked chp officers to give me an idea of how long they would be here doing their investigation. they say it's tough to say. could

amy hollyfield has been talking to fire officials and joins us with an update. amy? >> reporter: we just got a briefing, kristen, they tell us they are now waiting for the tow truck going to clear this truck and its tanks out of here. you can see it is still sitting right over there, right at carlson boulevard, on ramp here, interstate 80. so, they are waiting for the tow truck to get here. they have made the phone call. that tank is still leaking. firefighters say its' a small leak but they have evacuated the section of the hotel sitting here, the rooms that face the tank here in america's best value inn. they tell me there's about ten people. one officer told me we are talking about 500 gallons worth of propane inside that tank. >> we have a very small leak. when i say small, talking about something the size of your home barbecue propane tank at this point. we are mitigating this and will have details soon. >> it happened at carlson boulevard, ramps in both directions are closed now. no word when they will get this cleared out of here. wait willing for the tow truc

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live near interstate 80 where the closure is. amy?> reporter: eric, the car is still here. they haven't even towed it out of here yet. you can see investigators are still studying it. they don't look anywhere near ready to get it out of here. this central off ramp here, westbound interstate 80 in richmond, is still shut down. the car flipped off of the freeway, rolled down that embankment you see there, landed on uits side. the driver died. firefighters had to cut the top of that mini van off to get him out. he was westbound on interstate 80 about 1:40 in the morning. he passed the construction site right there on the freeway. and his car caught the eye of chp officers on the site. in fact, it wasn't really their eye but their ears. they say the front tire of his car was so flat, they actually heard him before they saw him. >> we had two vehicles working the closure. two officers. they heard the vehicle come by. the vehicle was actually driving on its right rim. that's what brought their attention to it originally. >> reporter: invest

reporter amy hollyfield begins our coverage in diablo. amy?> lots of trees down overnight because of all the wind. let's start in diablo. this crew is almost finished with the cleanup on this road, but look at what they were dealing with just a couple hours ago. a tree was blocking the road that leads in to diablo country club. this is right outside of alamo in an unincorporated area. there are homes along this road so they wanted to get it cleared up as soon as possible so people could get out to work and to school. it came down overnight because of intense winds. >> it's amazing. i live in tracy. it's not like that there right now. usually tracy is the bad spot. it's kind of bizarre. i came around the corner and saw it. just crazy. >> he was with a company that has to clean up this mess. now check out another sight in oakland. this tree came down overnight as well on skyline road near highway 13 and brought down a lot of debris with it. the road is covered with branches and leaves. this one also started a small fire that was quickly put out.

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield begins our coverage in diablo. amy? >> yeah, matt. winds have died down significantly but look at the damage that it did overnight. look at this tree that came down in the unincorporated community of diablo outside of alamo leading into the diablo country club. there are homes along this road but we're told there is another way in and out so they aren't completely stuck but quite a mess to deal with this morning. and it didn't just happen here. the winds took out a few trees in the bay area overnight. look at this one that happened in oakland. this is skyline and redwood road near highway 13. not only took out the tree but brought down a lot of debris with it leaves and branches. the winds were powerful overnight. >> usually tracy is the bad spot. it's bizarre. came around the corner and saw this. it's crazy. >> reporter: he is with the company that's hired to handle the cleanup here at diablo. the problem is a little bigger than he thought it was going to be so he's waiting for more equipment to get here and sun light before he tackl
