i'm amy goodman. today we spend the hour remembering the pioneering historian, theologian, and peace activist dr. vincent harding. he died may 19 at the age of 82. he was a close adviser to dr. martin luther king and wrote king's famous antiwar speech "beyond vietnam." king delivered the address at riverside church here in new , 1960 seven, exactly one year to the day before he was assassinated in memphis, tennessee. harding was involved in numerous civil rights groups including the southern christian ship conference, the student nonviolent court in committee and racial equality. after king was assassinated, harding became the first director of the martin luther king jr. memorial center and of the institute of the black world. you later became a professor at iowa school of theology in denver. professor described him as "the most importance overrides leader not everyone has heard of. i interviewed vincent harding in our firehouse studio unable first, 2008. it was three days before the 30th anniversary

amy hollyfield joins us with details on the pursuit reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour. >> reporter: kristen, yeah, two scenes here. you can see authorities hard at work behind me. but look up. that is interstate 680. that is southbound up there. authorities also were working on that scene that's where it started all night long but they recently reopened all of the lanes on southbound. that has opened up. what happened, this car driven by a 19-year-old and he was driving erratically in concord. a police officer spotted him, tried to stop him but the driver raced off and headed southbound 680 sometimes going as fast as 100 miles per hour. he lost control, hit the guardrail, tumbled down the embankment before the el cerro exit. he was taken to the hospital, in critical condition. he is michael holden of concord. authorities started to investigate, they determined that the car he was driving had been stolen out of walnut creek. this story's impacted several cities here in the east bay along interstate 680. but now the investigation is focused here in danville. we are on la gonda road w

i'm amy goodman. the boko haram has released a video showing the first images of the kidnapped nigerian schoolgirls since their abduction nearly one month ago. close to half the nearly 300 girls are seen on the tape, chanting what appears to be a verse from the koran. leader is also shown and appears to offer the girls freedom in exchange for the nigerian government's release of all the groups prisoners. three of the girls are interviewed, saying they have not been harmed and have converted to islam. the nigerian military says it has deployed 10 search teams in the remote northeast where the girls were seized. nigerian president good luck jonathan says he does not believe reports the girls of and taken to neighboring cameroon. working to see where they are.
