amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. >>> governor brown is expected to sign the state budget soon. it passed the legislature late last night. because there is no tax increase, simple majority vote was enough to pass so not a republican vote was needed. but there is something in the budget for each party to dislike. >> the budget will devastate public education, schools and children. $3 billion worth of cuts. >> this budget right now doesn't go far enough to really correcting the things that are wrong here in california. of course, it's going to be a release to taxpayers, if the actual tax, if the taxes go back to what they were before 2009. >>> temporary taxes are set to expire on friday. the state sales tax would drop by 1% and vehicle lie sense tax would drop by half. governor released a statement saying that the legislature made tough choices and delivered an honest, balanced and on-time budget with painful cuts. if he signs it, as expected, it will be only the fifth time since 1991 that california has had a budget in place before the start of the fiscal year. >>> oakland city c

amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thanks a lot. >>> a new budget breakthrough, no republican help needed. governor brown announces he agreed on a deficit-closing deal that democrats will vote on today. one that includes a sales tax on online retailers. terry mcsweeney has more details. >> reporter: democrats and republicans dislike and like something about the budget. brown vetoed a budget two weeks ago that had too many accounting gimmicks but he approved a veto that counts on dollars that might or might not happen. it's assuming $4 billion for the next fiscal year. it's based on higher than expected revenue figures in recent months and it signals that governor is giving up on a plan to let the voter decide fate of tax increases. he could not persuade four republicans to go along with the idea to get it on the ballot. >> i thought we were getting close. if you look back, there is almost religious reluctance to deal with the state budget in a way that requires new revenues. >> reporter: highlights iffer you now. redevelopment agencies are eliminated. some say they will challenge that in court. sales tax
