amy hollyfield is live from coastguard island in alameda. family members are hoping for a miracle here. >> they are. coastguard has covered 14 high school miles and one of family members says she was told that the search would be called off o at 2:00 a.m. on friday. the family is still hopeful that he was found, san ramon man loved this annual trip. he spent a year packing it. he organized the trip and his relatives say they are holding on to the possibility that he is on shore or he is floating and waiting for help. the coastguard says the search is a tough job, they are 500 feet in the air and trying to spot someone's head and it's tough to do. they say there is a they could find a survivor. john lee called his wife just before he climbed on board. >> he just wanted to make sure that we had a chance to speak with each other. he was going to be back on friday. >> came on shore and we have a scanner checking the shoreline for anybody that came ashore but the water temperature being as high as it is, it's certainly possible. >> seven u.s. tou

amy hollyfield is live at civic center with the latest. >> reporter: bart police are still on the scene and they tell us they did find a couple of knives and some broken glass from a bottle here at the scene. they got the call at about 9:30 last night, some people complaining about a man brandishing a knife. he appeared drunk. he was would be butly and he fell down on the platform. the next call dispatch received was that shots were fired. they don't know exactly what happened, but investigators say there is evidence there was a can confrontation. >> the officer suffering from cuts and bruises house arm. minor cuts and bruises on his arm. the suspect is a white male. two officers involved one is white. >> they don't know much about the man that was killed, he is somewhere between 30 and 50 years old. they don't know where he is from. san francisco police are investigating this along with bart police. the station will be opening at civic center at 8:00 a.m. along with all of other stations on a holiday schedule. amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news." >>> it's been a violent night in richmond wher

. >> i'm amy hollyfield live in fairfield where firefighters are about to brief us on this huge fire they battled yesterday afternoon at a plastics manufacturing company. >>> san francisco's interim mayor says he is ready considering running after an endorsement from a powerful politician. >> low clouds and fog blanketing the bay area. some of it dense but it's not going to last long. we're starting our warming trend today. >> it's 6:00 a.m. on this wednesday morning, foggy wednesday morning. i'm eric thomas. >> and i'm kristen sze. >> plan for a detour right now if you normally take 29th off-ramp from 880 in oakland. off-ramp is closed due to a fatal accident that begin with the chp chase. nick smith is live at the scene. reopening soon hopefully? >> reporter: yes. we also know the exit will remain closed for the next 45 minutes or so. the car is over my shoulder. that white honda was involved in the high-speed pursuit. the driver was ejected. i want you to take a look at video. chp were at the intersection of 55th and international when they spotted the driver driving erratically.

amy hollyfield is live with the very latest. >> bart police just told us that one of their officers who was involved in this did suffer some scratches and some bruises. they are trying to figure out how that happened that they are suspecting there was possibly a confrontation in this case. it happened at 9:30 at civic center plaza station. there was reports that a man was drunk was brandishing a knife. he at one point fell down on the platform. bart police arrived. the next report dispatchers received that shots were fired. they believe the man that was shot was armed. >> at this point, one suspect was shot. three shots that were fired at the scene, broken bottles and possibly a knife. >> the station is shut down while they investigate this case, but they do think it will open at 8:00 a.m. along with all of the other stations on a holiday schedule. they don't think it will impact p.m. on use bart at all. san francisco police and bart police will investigate it. they will crete it as an criminal investigation. investigators at this point tell us they don't know much about the man he was

amy hollyfield is live at sfo. amy, passengers had to come to the rescue. >> reporter: it was a very violent attack on the pilot. at one point, one of men said when you fly to san juan, i will have you killed. here are pictures that passengers took of the incident. this is once the men left the plane. it all started on the plane. one of the men was sleeping. it appeared he was drunk. he wouldn't wake up and buckle his seat belt. the pilot decided to pull back to the gate and asked one of men to get off the plane. the brother decided to get off, too. then they turned violent on the pilot. here is a description and reaction to his role in the incident. >> it was really erratic. suspicious. bothering other passengers. so we left to go to take off and then the pilot brought the plane back. we ended up going back to take care of it. it was natural. just doing my duty, that's all. >> reporter: here are the mugshots of the brothers that were arrested. jonathan and luis baez were arrested. pilot was first hit in the eye po

amy hollyfield is live at the scene. >> had they are working on the air air. firefighters called it a night after 8 1/2 hours of fighting the fire but now the big question is what kind of toxic problems it has created for us in the air. the plume of black smoke could be seen as far away from oakland. it was burning as many as 30,000 plastic bins. the company makes those plastic bins that are used by farmers. firefighters found it extremely hot making this fire a huge challenge for them. investigators say workers at the plant started the fire. >> we have confirmed with the business owners and employees on site that that they did have employees with working with some type of open flame device. i don't have details but probably a blowtorch or welding in that area. >> no major injuries were reported. about 120 firefighters came to help out with this when it reached the sixth alarm. they even received help from travis air force base. they finally stopped putting water on it about 9:30 last night. macro plastics has been here for 20 years and never had a fire like t

amy hollyfield is live at sfo with the story. >> reporter: what a story. passengers arrived here in a state of shock. it was 2:00 in the morning it was a long flight. what an eventful start the flight had. we have some pictures of what happened given to us by a passenger. here is what they say happened. two people they believe were drunk turned obnoxious. they were acting so crazy the pilot pulled back into the gate and told them to get off his plane. one man punched the pilot in the eye. that is when the plane of people really turned on these men. six people jumped on the guys and pulled them off the pilot they were beating up. they held them until police arrived. people said it was an unbelievable sight. >> we were all scared. we knew these guys were weird and they were acting funny and talking weird and everything. they looked really different. it was pretty shocking. they should have called security right away but they had a big confrontation. >> people said they were actually surprised the men were allowed on the plane. they were acting strangely in t

amy hollyfield joins us live from larkspur. what is going on out there?reporter: it's hard to believe i'm reporting, the ferries are running but it is news today because it was called off. all ferry service was called off today which was alarming for commuters, all of them scrambling. now, the ferries are running. first one left at 5:50 this morning. union decided to strike over contract negotiations. seven ticket takers are about to be replaced by machines. they decided to call a one-day strike. golden gate officials kald service altogether to get it done with. that really surprised the employees. they were not thrilled with that. so they decided to call the strike off. commuters had adjusted and made alternate plans, it was about 5:15 morning when they announced service would run after all. >> the press release, that stated they would be on strike this morning. apparently through the evenings they had a change of heart and they are not going to strike today. we will be running service. we just want to say how unfortunate it is for customers that the uni

amy hollyfield is live at the scene. >>> take a look. police are still here.is in a neighborhood we just saw this big pickup truck drive over to a dog walker shine the lights her and officer apparently asked her to leave because she turned around and walked away thy shooting is impacting this neighborhood this lovely trail is now off-limits. this is the second shooting in less than a week. this shooting happened around midnight on the de anza trail just west of the railroad tracks. they say the victim was alive when he was taken to the hospital. the officers out here have not received an update from the hospital on his condition. these officers here are here to preserve the scene. they investigators will be out here once the sun comes up. they haven't made any arrests. the officers can't say whether this was a random attack or whether it was gang activity but clearly have a problem on this trail. a shooting happened last week and it looks like that one was gang-related. the man who died had an extensive criminal record and they don't think was a random attack.

we know reporter amy hollyfield will be getting more information. >> all right.im, thank you vice president of. talking about the discovery of a burning body in oakland this morning. >>> significant development in the investigation on giants' fan bryan stow. a woman who was called a person of interest has been arrested in las vegas. 26-year-old woman has been described as the girlfriend or ex-girlfriend of giovanni ramirez. the man that has been called at prime suspect in the beating of stow. investigators haven't been able to located her but she was arrested last week on meth charges. bryan stow is still recovering from severe brain injury. >> in san jose, members of a latino community they don't trust the police and are afraid to call authorities for help. they met with the police chief and told them about distress. many latinos are promising not to work with the police unless they get rid of two homeland security agents who work under the department of immigration. the chief says he needs community's help especially with 28 homicides this year. >> we have a co

amy hollyfield has more. >> reporter: protest came through the castro.ck out the damage that was done. this is bank of america at 18th and castro that had its window shattered. reports of smoke bombs thrown inside the muni station here. this protest started at 5:00 yesterday afternoon and came through the castro around 6:00. no one was hurt but someone did throw a hammer at police officers. police declared an unlawful assembly around 7:45 last night. that is when they arrested about 35 people. that was after the damage had been done to the castro and residents in this neighborhood they don't understand why the protestors were even here. >>> i don't know why keep it in their own area, i think. castro is more about love and peace, not violence. >>> protestors are questioning the shooting death by police officers of 19-year-old kenneth hard ago parolee from washington state. he does have a criminal record including being a person of interest in a murder investigation. protestors question whether he was armed when police shot him. san francisco police say no

amy hollyfield has a live update. >> good morning. check out behind me where the fire literally melted the chain link fence. it was so hot. firefighters say it really was an intense fire. check out over here. plastic bins this is what the company manufactures. this is what it was burning that made it tough to battle. the tower of black smoke over fairfield could be seen as far away as oakland. the fire burned up to 30,000 bins at macro plastics. firefighters said the plastic burns extremely hot making this fire a huge challenge for them. investigators say workers at the plant started the fire. >> that was amy reporting live on the fire. let's move on to another story. a potential headache for nimitz commuters a key off-ramp off of 880 is closed after a fatal crash. nick smith is live at the 29th avenue fruitvale off-ramp. when can we expect a reopening there? >>? >> reporter: we can expect it within the next hour or so. it won't affect 880 but it will affect those that will exit the 29th street off-ramp. that is the car. video that wo

[ siren ] >> reporter: harding is kenneth hard gt 19-year-old parolee that was shot and killed on saturday. people that are upset about the shooting question whether he was armed, why police shot him so many times and why they were chasing him for a minor offense of not paying his muni fare. police say when they tried to talk to him he ran and fired over husband shoulder at police. the investigation found gun residue on his hand. looking back at last night's chaotic meeting some leaders say maybe it was too soon, people are too upset to have a discussion about what happened. the police chief promises he will return to the community to talk to people and resolve these issues. amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news." >>> investigators are searching for the cause of a san francisco house fire that
