amy hollyfield is live with why repairs could take a while.ou only have to look behind you and you get it. >> reporter: yeah, check out that hole behind me, imagine what kind of a monday morning these people are going to have. they have to navigate around this hole also dealing with severed lines, you can see them down there in that big hole. and they have to wait for crews to come and cleanup these huge boulders, big chunks of pavement. it is going to take a while until this neighborhood gets back to normal, city officials say they are not going to clear this out quickly. the street gave way 8:30 yesterday morning when the road collapsed it snapped a water sewage line, -- water service line, sewage line and damaged a water main. part of the problem is the debris in the creek clogged a culvert when the healthy rains heavy rains fell the water started gushing on to y@ road which gave way city officials now have a plea for residents. >> when you see things piling up, go to the city, let them know there's a problem, before it becomes critical. in

amy hollyfield is live there with the latest. >> reporter: they just called off the search. there's no sign of him. officials say they aren't sure what that means. video from overnight they were searching from 1 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. then they started again this morning this started with when they tried to stop a man for a possible dui they say he took off running from his car this was around midnight on sir francis drake boulevard. officers were chasing him and saw him jump into the creek. they decided they needed to keep looking for him. >> we called out resources because we are not sure whether he made it out or not and we would like to make sure that if he didn't make it out, is he still clinging to a branch or stuck some place? we want to get him out if possible. >> reporter: they got started again near the cortamadera creek at first light, volunteers from search-and-rescue teams did a surface search. they looked from a helicopter but there is no sign of him and they are not sure what that means whether he may be drowned and they didn't see his body, they did not have a div

crews on the scene now as is amy hollyfield. is the road shutdown?>> reporter: they've shutdown one lane. here's what the situation looks like, there's a hole on the shoulder of marsh creek road officials are worried it could spread to the road itself. a crew supervisor spotted it when he got out of his truck, he saw a cavity under the road. they decided to shutdown one lane. now they are working on a temporary solution involving metal plates so they can get it reopened. >> right now we have trench plates coming steel plates to place over the road, we are looking at 20 feet long so we can span the cavity. we are hopeful that would mitigate the immediate hazard until we have time to get a contractor also the weather is supposed to be raining through this week it would not be a good time to be excavating in the rain. >> reporter: here's a shot of those metal plates, they are hoping to have all lanes open by this evening's commute. officials say the back-up because of the shutdown lane hasn't been too bad of a delay for drivers. of course it is better t

amy hollyfield shows us what is left today. >> reporter: firefighters will be trying to figure out the caused to. take a look behind me. the building is not safe. they have secured it to keep people from getting inside. they are waiting until engineers can go inside and give the all clear that it is safe in there. this caught fire in fremont just before 2:00 yesterday afternoon. firefighters say the fire was intense, that the roof collapsed and they weren't able to go inside. there were about 60 employees inside the building when the fire started, one person even tried to put out the fire. >> i tried to do something but it just caught on too fast. it was pretty devastating. >> this fire was fully involved when we arrived. >> reporter: no one was literature. everyone got out okay. firefighters did evacuate a few buildings around c and h as a precaution but they cut it to this building. a firewall played a big role from keeping it spreading. director of operations at the company says they have good insurance and it will cover the lost wages for employees. amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news". >>

crews on the scene now as is amy hollyfield. is the road shutdown?>> reporter: they've shutdown one lane. here's what the situation looks like, there's a hole on the shoulder of marsh creek road officials are worried it could spread to the road itself. a crew supervisor spotted it when he got out of his truck, he saw a cavity under the road. they decided to shutdown one lane. now they are working on a temporary solution involving metal plates so they can get it reopened. >> right now we have trench plates coming steel plates to place over the road, we are looking at 20 feet long so we can span the cavity. we are hopeful that would mitigate the immediate hazard until we have time to get a contractor also the weather is supposed to be raining through this week it would not be a good time to be excavating in the rain. >> reporter: here's a shot of those metal plates, they are hoping to have all lanes open by this evening's commute. officials say the back-up because of the shutdown lane hasn't been too bad of a delay for drivers. of course it is better t
