abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is on the scene. amy?kristen, look at the damage of this fire: you can see firefighters still were watching it closely with smoke coming out it, and they just get the fire out moments ago and you can see about it will cars burned here and the building is gone. this is also a residence here and an older couple was living here but did make it out okay. check out the cell tone video take were by scott murphy who went it to us. he warned you to see what it looks like when the crews arrived. firefighters say it was going and they wonder what was fueling the fire. they have an investigator on the scene to try and figure that out. neighbors are suspicious saying this was very scary. >> it looks like it was come this way and i woke up the family to get out. it was huge. huge. just huge. way up in the sky. the entire area. cars were blowing up and pieces were flying all over. >> firefighters got the call at 3:15 this morning to come to the boulevard in martinez and firefighters say the couple living here got out ok

team coverage continues with abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield. amy? kristen, we have a visual update. look at the images. this fire is huge. usually you will see fires calm down overnight but this is still very active and raging this morning. it was a busy night for firefighters and still going strong. they still up there on the republican trying to make progress. this started at 1:30 yesterday afternoon along the east side of mt. diablo. it forced people to evacuate from their homes in clayton. crews worked hard in the hot afternoon and were hoping the cool of night would help them make progress. >> temperatures usually go down and the humidities rise and we get a better chance to do direct and indirect attack. instead, there were reports this fire has grown from 800 acres to a thousand acres. they have 10 percent of it contained. one firefighters suffered a minor injury and they lost a willing, a remote outbuilding destroyed by the fire but so far they have kept it from homes. another update on the fire, it has burned into mt. diablo state park. tha

back to abc7 news reporter, amy hollyfield. amy? >> the ownerses of the car lot have arrived. they are surveying the damage but there is not much left. the building is gone. eight cars burned. here is what it looks like at peak at 3:15, the video is courtesy of scott murphy who sent it to our abc7 news, two people lived on the rot and firefighters spent a little time looking for them. they have just confirmed that the two people are okay. they were awake when it happened and the man came out and left the scene but the woman went back to a trend's apartment behind the lot and went back to sleep. firefighters are relieved to have them accounted for the neighbors tell what she heard and saw? >> i was sitting at the front window and i heard a large "boom," and i heard car alarm. i looked out the window and i heard another "boom," and it went up in films, -- up in flame s all at once the. >> everyone is okay and now they are trying to figure out cause. it spread quickly and firefighters are curious to know how it caught fire. they have their suspicions saying it looks a little off.

abc7 news amy hollyfield joins us from the toll plaza with more news on the weekend rush to get the newspan ready for the 5:00 a.m. opening tomorrow. amy? >> we got the insider perspective with a c.h.p. officer saying the work is going well and says there is no way the bridge is opening late. he is predicting there is a good chance it will openerly usually. i talked with a bridge spokesman and he says no decision has been made yet on whether to on the bridge before 5:00 tomorrow morning. he said that is a fluid discussion. crews are working around the clock and c.h.p. officers are the ones who will be given the all clear to open it up and they are ready to do that right now. they are waiting for the call. we are standing by because israel -- caltrain will give us the word so we make sure the first cars across do not go too fast the when you have an open roadway the tendency is to hit the gas harder because you do not necessarily have the perspective of another car to tell you how fast you are going. they will pause today to celebration and hold a ceremony at 3:00 this afternoon full of

threatening dozens of homes and building near clayton and we have team coverage starting with amy hollyfield at a staging area in clayton. amy? >> i have a new update. the fire doubled overnight and now is 1,500 acres. you can see how active it is in the dark. it is still raging strongly and is very powerful, an active fire. firefighters are very busy. they say more firefighters from across the state are on the way. right now. they say they have a lot of work. they still want to build eight miles of fire line around the fire. they say it is about 10 percent contained. it started at 1:30 yesterday afternoon along morgan territory road on the east side of mt. diablo near clayton. the vegetation there is very dry and discussion -- susceptible to fire. this spread in a hurry. it destroys one outbuilding but they kept it from reaching hopes. they have told some people in clayton they do need testify -- need to evacuate. one firefighter hurt his foot but is expected to be okay. it is not a bun. it is steep terrain. 300 firefighters are on the line and that number is expected to grow significantly

abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield joins us with the latest. amy?ort. the fire is out. they are in the mopup phase. they think they have figured out the cause. it started at 3:30 this morning on 24th at market in oakland. it took an hour to put out. they think electrical problems in the laundry room started the fire. it started this one house and it spread next door. it was a challenge for firefighters who had to submit the resources when they got here. the first home a duplex. do people live up and two live down. this was a visitor in the downstairs unit so three were downstairs and two upstairs and all five are work with the red cross. they all got out okay on their own before the fire department got here. one person did twist an kill on the way out but they are okay. because it was two homes firefighters went home and took this to a third alarm meaning that 50 firefighters showed up. they are all okay. no major injuries to report, jut one twisted ankle of a resident. >> thank you. in hair, -- in hair, two auto theft suspects are in chase after a

abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at the police station with more. amy?> this is still getting put together. we know there was a fight. there was a fatal stabbing. there was dodger apparel involved. here is video of the area where it happened. it was close to the ballpark at 3rd and perry where we took the video under the i-80 overpass, the entrance ramp. this is the area where it happen ed. a couple of groups of men got in a fight after the game at 11:40. something was said about the fact the guys had on a dodgers hat and shirt and a blue wig. there was a fight. a man was stabbed to death. we are told the victim's father and where were wearing the dodgers apparel. police say they have men in custody. including one who has blood on his shirt. no arrests have been made. they are still gathering information and evidence. they are still trying to figure out what happened, who is to blame, who could be charged. they need a little bit more time on this one because they are talking to people at this point so we are in contact with police and we are getting upda

abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at the toll plaza. finally, amy. >> good morning, eric. isn't it great? it feels like christmas morning a big fun present for the bay area. we are at the toll plaza. no problems here. no backup. cars are moving without any trouble. they are going on a historical trip. here are the cars crossing the first time this morning. they are doing fine with a straight shot across the bridge. no s-curve to deal with. the c.h.p. is hoping that doesn't translate interest heavy-footed motorist. do not go too fast. you have to obey the speed limit which is 50 miles per hour. we have video of the first cars crossing the bay bridge that opened at 10:15. it was scheduled to open at 5:00 this morning but the work went smoothly so they were able to open it last night. it was greeted with enthusiasm. cars were waiting on both sides of the bay as people hoped to be some of the first to get across it. it opened at 10:15. it is historical but c.h.p. says do not slow down, no gawking. can you not stop and take pictures. move as normal. you cannot speed. you cannot

abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at the pleasanton police department which wrapped up a news conference. >> they tell us they are interviewing teenagers right now. teenagers from both high schools here in pleasanton and are calling them "persons of interest", not suspects. they are trying to figure out who beat the 51-year-old david lamont into a coma and what criminal charges to bring against his attackers. he was found unconscious in front of his home on saturday a little after midnight. his wife says he had gone outside to confront loud teenagers. police say the community has been very helpful. >> we thank the community for coming forward. some of the information we have received led to the identity of several involved parties that are currently "persons of interest" at this time. no one has been detained. there has been no arrest made. the investigation is still active. i cannot comment further. >> lamont is the father of two. he is in a coma. he has severe head injuries. he is in critical condition. neighbors say teens often gather in the empty field behind that moves important str

abc7 news reporter airline aim is -- amy hollyfield is in hayward where vehicles were damaged. amy? >> quite an impact on the police department. one officer was taken to the hospital. two patrol cars were damaged. this was because of a chase that started after 1:00 o'clock this morning in hayward. police officers were trying to pull over a car that had been reported stolen but the driver took off. he did hit two patrol cars during his attempted escape. they did pursue him. it took them on to mission boulevard. then the car crashed on a deadend neighborhood street. the driver and his passengers jumped from the car and ran off. they tried to run away from the officers. the officers caught them. >> we had an officer sustain a minor injury as they apprehended a person that fled from the car. >> one suspect was taken to the hospital and police have not described the injuries to say they only they are minor. no one was shot. they arrested both the driver and the passenger. >> new this morning, livermore police are investigating a major injury accident involving a pedestrian. it happened o

abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is on the scene. amy?ok at what it looked like: a fire on southbound 101 around 1:38 a.m. and they ship down the southbound highway because they needed room for the fire trucks to put out the fire. it was bigg. it was spreading. they had to get on top of it as quickly as they could. it was spreading to the bushes and lit up a tree. they shut it down for 15 minutes. this is evidence of a homeless encampment. there is stuff that belongs to people who may have been living in that area. investigators do not know the cause. they are looking whether it was arson or an accident. after the fire they stopped someone on city streets in san francisco for questioning but let that person go. they do not think that was the present who caused the fire. it is under investigation. quite a shock to see on 101 and dealing with the shutdown. the sig-alert is canceled. the fire is out. >> yesterday's strong winds shut down part of the great highway along san francisco's ocean beach. the sand is coughing -- covering the southbo
