amy klobuchar from minnesota. >> thank you.it is great to be on c-span. >> what did you think of the president's speech? >> i thought it was a solid speech, positive and done in a way that was joyful. about the positiveness of this country and what we stand for. he clearly laid out the challenges and some the ideas on how to solve them in terms of community college and childcare, family medical leave. but what was also important was that he talked about the successes and where we were six years ago and where we are now. i think that was an important thing to do. in my state we are down to 3.7% unemployment. we need more students with community college degrees, more welders. we are starting to turn away business. i think i think that is an important message. we have something like 8 million people who are unemployed, 5 million job openings. the key is to match of those job openings. you do that through training. a lot of times it is some kind of advanced degree. >> on that community college proposal, yet to take legislative form

senator amy klobuchar joining us, have a good night tonight. now we're being joined by jose it's good to see you. what i want to ask you about tonight is you have been so acute on the issue of not just immigration policy but immigration politics and how the issue of immigration, the wrangling around immigration resonates in our politics. one of the huge issues tonight is that the department of homeland security is not funded. it's funded for a couple more weeks, republicans are withholding because they are so mad about immigration. will we hear about that tonight? >> it is a fundamental issue and it runs out in february. and it is interesting just to think when the elections are held last november and from then to now, how the entire discussion that this country has been having has been set by the white house. think about it, we talked about that. the issue for example of cuba. the issue of immigration reform. i see it very difficult for the republicans to do anything in the house and senate that can bring some immigration reform maybe in this
