and one of the things that we learned through the re-entry council work that amy solomon leads on behalf of the department is that we needed to have different voices at the table. so we started meeting regularly with individuals who had been formerly incarcerated. and i just spoke a couple months ago at their first national conference. and to see thousands of people who have been caught up in our criminal justice system committed to rebuilding their lives. if you need inspiration, work with them. you'll be inspired and you'll see how committed they are to helping other people. so, what we have done with our second chance dollars is fund programs that work with communities to help build opportunities for people coming out of prisons. but we know what works. again, it's connection to family, jobs and education. so in partnership with the department of education, who's running the second chance pel program, which is phenomenal success, we're over 12,000 people who are incarcerated are now going to have a chance of getting higher education, thanks to the second chance pell pilot program. i m
