to give you an idea.his is iran. here is tehran. this is the caspian sea. what is so interesting about the quakes today is that ahar has a population of 94,000 and to the southwest tabriz has 1.4 million people living there. the first quake just 60 kilometers from the magnitude -- excuse me. i knew i'd go metric. i'm from cnn international. that is about 36 miles. it was just 11 minutes apart from each other. within 11 minutes and only seven miles. so for the most part when you look at these quakes not only was it the time short and they're almost twins but it's basically what we look at is the depth. so shallow in this mountain zone. 6.5 miles deep. the second one only 6.9. you tlik have these at least 18 to 20 miles deep so the earth crust can absorb all this energy. they've had at least 17 after shocks. magnitude 4.5 to 5.0. it's hard to say. they're in darkness about 8.5 hours ahead of us. it's hard to say how many thousands are sleeping in darkness in make shift tents right now. it will take time. th
