>> well, good morning, ana.his is really a significant abortion case, and the supreme court is considering simply in some cases whether federal law overrides state law. it is a significant abortion case because that federal law deals with emergency care, emergency medical treatment and labor act law. what it really says is if you go into an emergency room, you should be allowed -- you should get emergency stabilizing care, that anyone who comes into an emergency room should get that. idaho's law at issue here is an abortion law that outlaws the procedure except in cases of rape, incest, and when it's necessary to prevent the death of a mother. now, the federal law here and the biden administration is arguing that this law that idaho has, that it is not -- is conflicting with the federal law and the federal law should supersede it, saying essentially that this law could put women's lives in danger. idaho, though, says abortion policy is a state's right issue and their state law should override the federal law. th

this morning, ana heard that another family died on the same road on wednesday night. ana calls the news triggering. it was shocking and emotional. yeah, it's, very emotional. you just. your heart breaks, she had really hit the foothill on foothill road. the coroner has not released the names of the victims. only saying they were a family of two adults and two children under 15. investigators say speed could have played a role as the car hit the curb. and then a big oak tree before bursting into flames. police also identify the car as a vinfast electric vehicle, but we don't know what model. nbc bay area has learned that the national traffic safety administration has recalled certain 2023 vinfast models for speedometer and warning light errors. drivers have also filed complaints with the agency about steering and lane departure issues with the vehicles, but it's unclear which models the agency denied. our request for an interview. pleasanton police have not mentioned carmel function as a possible cause, but ana says don't forget about the risk that comes with the road

i'm ana cabrera in for katy tur this afternoon. jury selection in donald trump's criminal trial in new york city has hit a hurdle. two jurors who were already sworn in are now out. more than half of today's initial pool of prospective jurors are also gone, self-excused on grounds that they do not believe they can be fair and impartial. where do things go from here. prosecutors say juror number 4, an i.t. consultant concealed his criminal history, and also expressed privacy concerns to judge merchan, something that was also a concern of juror number 2, an oncology nurse. she told the court, friends and colleagues began questioning her identity as part of the jury based off media reports and now she didn't feel like she could remain impartial. these dismissals bringing the total to five seated jurors out of the 12, plus six alternates that are needed. this underscores just how difficult impanelling a jury will be. and everyone who has been trickling out of that courtroom seems to have an opinion on what's taking place inside. here's
