crews are laying track work for the anacostia line. it's a pilot project for the street car revival. and it's been plagued by years of delays already. news 4's tracee wilkins joins us live from southeast d.c. with more on what this means for drivers out there. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, barbara. it will mean some delays for drivers that will be happening over the next year as they begin construction on the anacostia line, but i'm telling you, i remember all the store fridays my dad about street cars and how if he wasn't walking, he was on the street car. before street cars disappeared, more than a century ago. but taking a look over here, look what's been happening in southeast. construction, actually seeing street car lines beginning to form is really amazing, considering how long the project's been talked about. the $55 million project is beginning to take shape here at 1st sterling avenue and southeast. next week "the washington post" reports work will begin on south capitol street. that work will be the work that will

we have the anacostia river here and the potomac river here in our city. the president declared that the federal government should lead this effort and established a federal leadership committee for the chesapeake bay consisting of relevant agencies which we -- would be chaired by the e.p.a. administrator. the agencies were directed to draft and submit reports to the committee making specific recommendations for protecting the chesapeake. the initial reports are slated to be made public today, which makes this effort very timely. h.r. 965, the legislation we are now considering, takes another important step forward in our efforts by permanently authorizing a program that has already done so much to raise awareness of the fragile health of the bay and directly engage our region's citizens and visitors to take an active role in fulfilling our shared goal of restoring the chesapeake. the chesapeake bay gateway network, which includes more than 150 museums, state parks, wildlife refuges, and other sites in six states and the district of columbia was establishe
