and he is one of a dozen at least at anacostia high school.ever, under the new principal at anacostia, dr. roberts, they've really made some great strides. they go out into the community. they talk to parents. they get the kids to come to the school. the principal said listen, we know parents aren't going to come to us so we're going to go to them. >> rich is a small organization. they can use some help. >> absolutely. paul pettiman, the director, one person and two others. it takes $5,000 to $7,000 just to tutor one student for two years. unfortunately sometimes our school system can't sit down with a kid for a one on one tutoring program. so you really need these other outside nonprofits to move in and do the work. not to say that, you know, our dcps school system certainly doesn't have their challenges and is doing a lot of good work but you need a lot of outside effort. >> what's interesting, it sounds like a lot of money the $5,000 to $7,000 but compare that versus the investment you have to make to keep someone confined in jail or someth

anacostia across the river with areas like the navy yard and the new baseball stadium. officials say that is changing and one big step was taken today. this used to be a working bridge until this morning. it is shut down now and is never going to open again. they are going to knock it down. in its place what open up this morning is right over here. this is the new 11th street bridge. the bigger deal of this project is above it. that bridge in the distance is going to be a way to get from the east of the city to areas like capitol hill and downtown d.c. without one traffic light. you can see there are already cars on it, but the project is not really finished yet. it will take 30-45 days to open up the bigger part of it. you will be able to go to areas like the capital, all the way to arlington, without one single traffic light. this is the biggest road project in the history of the district of columbia, $300 million is the cost. there will be a lot of pain in the neighborhoods because they are setting up the final stages before they can open up that one part into the ci
