well, it turns out there was only smoke, but still fire trucks raced to scene at anacostia and at theavy yard stations. metro says the smoke was due to an arcing insulator problem which can be relatively routine, but an emergency responder may have hit controls that accidentally zapped electricity to two green line trains that were stopped in the tunnel. one passenger eventually hit the emergency exit button and discovered it was only a short walk through the tunnel to get out at the anacostia station. so a lot of passengers just followed him out. metro stopped rail service between navy yard and southern avenue and provided shuttle bus service, but passengers complained that there wasn't enough. there weren't enough buses and that they were also angry at being stranded so long underground. >> the power just went out and then we were just sitting under the train maybe 30 minutes or so. it was getting pretty hot. we had an emergency situation where a lady was -- i don't know if she was diabetic, but what happened, she had shortness of breath and me and another guy pulled her over to the
