a prisoner at the anamosa state penitentiary beating a correctional officer. the department of corrections says last night justin kestner used a piece of metal to hit the officer in the face. other staff members quickly stopped the attack. the officer suffered multiple contusions to the face, but will be okay. kestner is serving a 35 year sentence for several crimes including theft. the jones county attorney will decide on any possible additional charges. penitentiary in fort madison by climbing through piping up to the roof. authorities caught him several hours later. paramedics found a man with burns walking to the hospital after an apartment fire this morning. firefighters responded to an apartment at 623 west 2nd street in waterloo around 7 this morning. paramedics took the man to allen hospital, who is expected to survive. investigators are now trying to determine how the fire started. the waterloo police chief wants input from felons several organizations to put tog n advisory team. the team would consist of five or six felons whose convictions are at le
