in and new companies, to encourage them to come into the city, established incubators, and its alerthe city forward on better biotech, better glass that can keep warmth and still use energy in the right way, better lighting, even higher standards for our commercial buildings. even though we have had a great run, this last year i sign a commercial building organism, and we have great companies like autodesk and others to really work with me and increase commercial buildings to use recycled materials, as well as energy savings. we need to do all of that. we need to an advance the relationship forward. that is why sf city and to me. that is why it is so a important for code for america. that is why we brought in the nation's first chief innovation officer. you are in the world of green business and green technology. we need your ideas. i want them. and i won business to know that they have a critical role in working with our government. we cannot have a separate government from business. that is not the way to do things anymore. and the smaller businesses, the new innovative businesses,

[music]. thanks to the stern grove association they renovated the concert meadow. it used to be a rolling grafsy area. put in a new stage and stage building. they put in terraces. we get from 8,000 to 12,000 people. and the meadow next to the concert meadow is full of people even though they can't see the music t

and the city of san francisco. also, the opportunity to market san francisco as a global destination, which it already is, but getting the word out and showing that we can bring an event like this to san francisco will help us for generations to come with more visitors helping with the work we're doing. the addition of a world-class cruise ship terminal on our waterfront that can be used both for cruise ships and other events will help grow and really expand what is happening with all of the excitement on the waterfront. we're very much in support of the america's cup and we urge that you move this agreement for it and bring it to the full board next week, and we thank you for all of your efforts to make happen. >> just a quick question. a supervisor avalos? supervisor avalos: thank you. are we seeing increased bookings for events coming up in late summer, early fall of this year as we are getting closer? >> some of our hotels have already seen bookings. supervisor avalos: that you know are linked to the actual race

but it also began with our own city fleet. and we were talking with city car share and zip car about how we can share vehicles and reduce carbon emissions and all of those great goals that mayor gavin newsome had announced that we wanted to really do enthusiastically. so if you see right in front of city hall the example that we gave everybody, the green car showcase, that began with our effort to signal that we were willing to even give up city parking spaces. you know how valuable city parking spaces are, we have wars within city government around who's parking spaces those are. but to signal a big culture change, one that we felt was important to our future of the city in reducing cars, we made it our own goal to reduce our own city fleet and begin with that commitment first. so we did it, we did it with everybody's cooperation, m.t.a., city administrator as well as our purchaser to create that green car showcase. but we also realize there are many parts of the city as david mentioned that don't have ready access to public gara

also right for the city and county for generations to come. some of the property rights that are implicated here, that are being proposed, have the city making commitments on property and assets that, quite frankly, not only belong to us but belong to future generations of san franciscans, and we have an obligation to make sure that 10, 20, 30, 40 years from now, people are not going to look back at this deal and say, terrific what were they thinking back in 2012 -- and say, "what were they thinking back in 2012?" i think the recommendations made in this report are recommendations that should be adopted, beginning with fact that any reimbursement that is made by the city to the authority should be based on estimates that are actually made by an independent third party so that we have a neutral party that actually tells us what the legal and financial obligations to the city actually are, making sure that certain provisions that were included subsequent to the board approving the original deal, that some of those provisions are taken out. there

we did this in other cities in the u.s. and we will be in that other big california city, los angeles, in a few other days. thursday, and -- thursday and friday. and i was convinced quite easily about the use to have these kind of work shops in l.a. but i thought san francisco, there's so much going on already. we had leah and for almost nine months in amsterdam and chairman david chiu and others for a week. and there is such great organization here and there are so many ideas. there are so many professional little here already about bike infrastructure and the future of biking. but it will come down to implementation and it's perhaps a bit like riding the wiggle. you have to push hard and hopefully we might be a sort of additional support, a sort of small electricity motor for you to push your -- up that hill. and it will come down to implementation and leadership and it's great to have a sort of down to earth approach during these two days. working in teams on i think three important places in town. market, mid market. there'

she has advocated for sense of participation and funding to be restored to our city's quality youth programs. [applause] [applause] roblin bonner, 18, is an outspoken member of the youth leadership. roblin graduated from downtown high where she was a passionate role model and advocated for youth to be more engaged in the political process. [applause] [applause] -- 17, pawlenty first single occupancy sro in the chinatown development center. he also wrote a grant proposal to create a bilingual fire safety and emergency preparedness curriculum along with emergency kits for each participating sro unit. [applause] [applause] valerie clinker is a voice of community change in front and behind the camera. she was a guest youth analyst at the third anniversary women's pioneer awards ceremony and presented gina davis with the woman pioneer award. she was also named valedictorian of the changing program. [applause] last but not least, a nasalee, 18, spearheaded the 16th street bart installation about gender which infused her passion for art and activism. an asset is a second year career educator at the

city. i think you can take this job and run with it. is city needs to be more kid- friendly, more youth-oriented. i think you could have a big input to make sure that what we are doing will be there for you to raise families as well. i want to congratulate all the nominees tonight. all of you who have been participating in this competition for the fellowship have been doing great work. i have been reading through some of the accomplishments that you are a part of. i got to meet some of you, luckily, last month when you participated in youth advocacy day, but you also followed up -- some of you were at the old school cafe with what house representatives about what the youths were looking at in terms of their future, participation in the city. here in city hall, we are serious about having programs that not only help you out, but to make sure you get the support you need to be successful. we want you and need you to be successful. without that, we are literally a soulless city. whether it is being able to traverse on a good muni system, ha

and bicyclist. this bond will also repair sidewalks all over the city. what san francisco is premier pedestrian advocacy organization. i would like to introduce the executive director. [applause] >> walk s.f. is eager to see new investment in wider sidewalks and smarter street design throughout the city. in san francisco, even though we all walk, we still see 800 people here get hit by cars. that is too much. thanks to the mayor's pedestrian safety task force, we know that only 7% of our streets are where over half of all of the serious and fatal injuries occur. that means we know where to focus our resources to save lives. smart investment will pay off for everyone in the city because more walkable streets means more foot traffic. that is better for local businesses. that means safer streets for kids to walk to schools, families to walk to parks, and for everyone to enjoy lives, works, and visits san francisco. thank you. we want to make sure that this picture meant to reflect the values and the goals of the city and countyancisco. with that goal in mind, we have consulted with both our internal city family stakeholders, the various city departments, yourselves and others on the board of supervisors. i am also proud to also recognize that we have been partnering with, as you mentioned, the california investment coalition as well as the green mining institute pulling together these socially responsible criteria. to that point specifically, we are going to include a questionnaire, a set of questions that will ask each leading financial institution to share with us information with regard to these specific points. what kinds of employees they have in the city, what kind of branches they have, where they are located. what the participation has been in modification programs. what they have experienced in the way of bank foreclosures. what kind of crime and some prime lending. what their policies are on the real estate owned properties and what kind of bank lending are they doing for low income multifamily hou

you have not done your job as far as sunshine and the citizens of this city. you took an oath to support and defend the constitution, and yet when citizens come to you and say "we were denied an opportunity at a public meeting to meaningfully comment and participate," you ignore it. you side with the city 100% of the time. now, it is kind of hard to argue with that record as being one that is totally unjustified. >> hi, commission lovers. -- here. first of all, i wanted to congratulate you on having a televised version of this meeting. it is long overdue. i am glad that he's found money in the budget for it. or -- sorry. i want to say that i am sad to see the poor record you have to date on the enforcement of the sunshine referrals. almost every one that has been sent to you has been dismissed without a public hearing, and without even regulations in place to dismiss it. i would strongly encourage you to have a joint meeting with the sunshine task force to work with them on the regulations that are needed to be designed to handle sunshine matters, and i would a

city. this and branches are voters. it's the most anti-democratic thing we can do is a city. nothing is perfect, no voting system is perfect, i will admit this. our runoff system is not perfect, but ranked choice of voting is the type -- the kind of thing we need to end of our city. countless jurisdictions have and acted ranked joyce voting and repealed it. i hope you will give this a -- ranked choice of voting. i hope he will give this a chance to go to voters so we can give us the chance to the voters in our city. supervisor campos: by a blunt to echo the comments of the supervisor farrell and think the rules committee for the substantive dialogue we had and the people we had on both sides of the issue that have come out to speak about this item. san francisco's use of ranked joyce boating and public financing are two things that have gained -- ranked choice of voting. i know there is a difference of opinion here as whether ranked choice of voting has worked. to those of us who introduced the amendment, we believe the facts speak for themselves. ranked choice of voting has

and al harris in the mission, or dr. joe marshall in the bayview, san franciscans from across the city are working together to find new and exciting ways to address social problems. they are bringing legions of committed people to the table with them. we all want a city where a kid from any neighborhood can grow out safely, play in his local park, and go to a good public school. we want a city where kids can go to college and get the education that they need for a job. or opening a small business in the outer sunset. at its best, san francisco is a city for everyone. we are a city for the 100%. [applause] we will only realize our true promise and potential when we serve the needs and aspirations of each and every one. i will tell you one of the ways that we can do that. we need to create a permanent source of revenue. for funding of production and housing in san francisco. creating a space that is livable for everyone at every end of the spectrum. but just low-income housing, but working-class housing. we must never let up on our efforts to fight homelessness, move people off of the streets and into supportive housing. we

additionally, after years of planning and support from the city, production, distribution, and repair businesses to employ hundreds of san franciscans have began to thrive in these areas. i'm concerned the implementation of -- implementation and expansion of the park program is not considering the unique transit and parking enforcement challenges of some of these neighborhoods and the unique nature of pdr businesses. could you share your thoughts on how this program can be adapted and improved to better fit these areas and which be supportive of evaluating the use of parking passes for employees? thank you. mayor lee: thank you for your question. paid parking is of course controversial. it should be because how we manage parking effect how we live and work, transportation system, and our economic growth. the sfmta has been moving parking management and a new direction by making technology available easier to find parking and easier to avoid a parking ticket because it's easier to pay. that is great for drivers, but i like this approach because it is dated driven and will help the city

i relate to so many young people in the school and schools around our city. i stand before you as confirmation that an amazing life is possible for each and every one of our young people. i want them to know, if i can go from a place of such profound marginal causation, to a place of leadership, absolutely anything is possible. i have never forgot the difficulties i had as an immigrant to this country, and the toils of my parents as they struggle to provide for me, just as i will never forget my experiences as a beat cop working in los angeles, and frankly, working with those that went to compton court. or as chief of police. this life experience informs my vision and daily work as your district attorney. one of the cabinet that i made to gavin newsom and during our earlier conversations when i was competing for the job of the chief of police here was that i would do everything i could to make sure that san francisco became the safest large city in the country. and we have two cities that are top of our bike use. the city of gronig and the city of shola. over 50 october of of all trips daily made by bike. and for regional use of the bicycle. got some figures compared to a car. then you can see that schoolchildren use the bicycle very frequently for education. and still businessmen use the car a lot. and social recreational reasons. a reason for using the bike and shopping. we like to go shopping on our bikes. come to that later. and when it comes to gender. who's using the bicycle. i'm told that the netherlands is very typical on this. we have more women on bikes then -- than men. and the most intense users are girls from the age of 12 to 18 and that's easy to explain because i once was a girl of that age and to me, mabika was my ticket to freedom. i didn't want my mom and dad bringing me by car somewhere and then say well, i'll pick you up at 6:00. i go on my bike and i'll try to make it at 6:00. most of the time i was there. 6:30. and then later you can see at all ages, women still use the bicycle more than then -- men, in their 30's
