can see her here it falln the ideological spectrum as much as we would expect with nancy pelosi and john and olympia snowe and john closer to the ideological center. another thing to note is the purple. it is not the case that there are no moderate state legislators that are available to run for congress. barely 30% of the legislators are at least conservative as john tanner and 20% of the republican state legislators are at least as liberal as olympia snowe. so, the problem is not one that there are no moderates and state legislative office who are available to run for congress. now here at the distribution, the state legislators who ran for congressional office we can see first that they are squarely in the center of the distribution of the runners. we can also see that there are virtually no runners who resemble olympia snowe. that overlap the peaceful in the previous slide has all disappeared when we look at those that actually run for congressional office. but somewhat differently, here is the proportion of moderates and those who resemble olympia snowe and john tanner and ideologue
