i'm anderson cooper. we're live from moore, oklahoma.his is our special coverage of the ef-5 tornado that carved a 17-mile path through this area. there's a lot going on today. the medical examiner's office now lists ten children among the 24 people killed in monday's tornado. two of them were infants, 4 and 7 months old. the mayor of moore says the death toll is not expected to rise. now people in this devastated community must focus on both rebuilding their lives and burying their dead. it is a tough road to recovery. people here are leaning on faith and family. >> amongst the rubble and amongst the devastation, families huddled together pulling things out of the rubble, smiling the best they can. there's still tragedy. we lost life here. but families are picking themselves up. they're strong and resilient. a very, very strong faith. and we're going to move on. we have hope. >> oklahoma's emergency management office says that about 10,000 people were directly impacted by monday's tornado. right now fema has more than 400 personnel on t

erin, anderson cooper, they'll be anchoring our coverage throughout the night. i'm wolf blitzer in "the situation room". >> good evening, everyone. i'm erin burnett. a massive path of destruction across a suburb of oklahoma city. it was a two mile wide tornado that has torn through this area and happened late this afternoon. near lly 200,000 people were in the path of this storm. it was in a suburb of oklahoma city. the national weather service believes this storm was packing winds of between 166 and 200 miles an hour. two schools and an entire swath of homes were completely leveled. you look at the pictures, you won't be surprised that locals in oklahoma who have been covering this story have said this is the worst they have seen and this one person's time 18 years covering tornadoes. we're now hearing that six fatalities from the tornado in moore, oklahoma, are on the way to the office of the chief medical officer and examiner. this is just in the past few moments. and with all this devastation, it is horrific that we're hearing about these deaths. but we have

i'm anderson cooper live in oklahoma for the rescue efforts underway.just behind me, what is left of the local bowling alley, one of the buildings that stood in the way of this tornado just south of oklahoma city. a driving rain, thunder and lightning making rescue efforts more difficult right now. at least 24 people including nine children are dead. this is the tornado that caused the dev administration. two miles wide at one point with winds up to 200 miles per hour. people here just 15 minutes decide whether they would stay and ride it out or try to outrun it. one reporter found himself in the path of this tornado as he was driving to get his son. pulling over he shot this incredible video. watch. this is the terror from the ground. once it hit the sheer size of the monster tornado ripped up everything in the path, buildings, home. you can see the debris. if it was fixed to the ground it was flattened. if it wasn't it was thrown through the air. crews are digging through remains of malls. the search continues for children and school staff. >> i had t
