atlanta has a new mayor, andre dickens, comes from the city council. he was just elected this week. will have? a lot of people think of georgia as atlanta and, you know, atlanta is just a city. georgia is a big territory surrounded by a lot of red specks there. i'm curious what impact his election might have. >> it was a sign atlanta's electorate is becoming more progressive. he came from those progress uf roots. he had endorsements from predecessors. he was an atlanta city councilman. he's coming in with some big ideas, and some very progressive ideas about affordable housing, income inequality, criminal justice, he had endorsements from many of atlanta's and georgia's main democratic leaders because of those ideas, and his first real mission is to reset relations with state republican leaders who are trying to basically pass legislation that would deannex about a fifth of the city, the wealthy, white north part of the city. >> we will have a lot to talk about in the coming months when it relates to georgia. i look forward to having you both back many times. thank you so much, lato

mayor-elect andre dickens. congratulations on your election.e you know georgia in 2022 is going to be wild. there's a lot of voter suppression happening, you have stacey abrams who finally announced she's running for governor. you have senator raphael warnock on the ballot as well. i'm curious what role you wind up playing in those elections and what role you'll play personally? >> congratulations to you. i'm the 60th mayor of atlanta, and you just mention two of my good friends, stacey abrams and raphael warnock. both of them will be on the ballot in november of '22. i'll tell you, just a week and a half ago we saw the negative effects of sb 202. that's the voter suppression bill that came out of the state. even in a municipal election for makers we saw the problems that persisted related to provisional ballots and absentee and mail-in ballot issues. these problems had folks that had to mail in an application with their i.d. to then get a ballot back and then send that ballot back with their i.d. you can imagine how difficult that was for seni
