there's a crash, a big rig and metal debris right around andre road south of there. everything's okay. back to you. that's good. thanks. all right. with these temperatures, we've been having no doubt spring right around the corner. so next year on today in the bay, meteorologist kari hall returns with the changes that you can expect to see day's climate in crisis. meteorological spring begins this weekend. saturday marks the day when temperatures on average begin to rise as the days get longer. march 20th is astronomical spring, when the sun's most direct rays pass over the equator. and scientists are finding that, like all other seasons, spring is getting warmer and warmer. climate central analyzed 55 years of temperature data and found that meteorological spring has warmed across the us from 1970 to 2020. for the spring season, has warmed in 234 of the 241 u.s. cities analyzed by 2.4 degrees on average. unusually warm spring days now happen more often four out of every five cities now experience at least one more week of warmer than normal spring days than in 1970.

ktvu is ali rasmus on the road in the east bay to show us what it's like now. ali, where are you? >> well, we are andre. on westbound highway 24. you can turn the camera around just passing saint stevens drive. and it's not a downpour right now. just a very light rain that we see. but you can see darker clouds up ahead beyond the caldecott tunnel. so i'm sure in the next 30s to a minute or so, we will see heavier rainfall on our windshield. but for much of the morning, for many folks across the bay area, the rain was much heavier than this, and it was a rough commute. >> take extra precaution while it's a little bit more wet than usual. >> we talked to drivers about dealing with the commute on a morning like this and the challenges involved single vehicle crashes like this one we saw in the eastbound direction of the san mateo bridge this morning, are more common in these conditions. potholes, water pooling up on the highways were some of drivers other pet peeves. >> when you hit those big puddles, especially out like on the freeway. super scary right? because you'll get a lot of puddling, especially d

road conditions. ktvu sally rasmus in the east bay to show us what it's like there now. ali. >> yeah. andre. we just passed the oakland coliseum. we're on northbound 880, and things are moving very slowly. you can probably notice from the cars here behind me and i can turn the camera around. we are going at a rate of about ten miles an hour, and we have been for a while, a very sluggish commute this morning because of all the rain and all the heavy traffic headed towards the city of oakland. but this is the kind of weather that can lead to a lot of spin out crashes, because the roads are so slick. so it's actually a good thing that we are driving pretty slowly and so is everyone else. we saw a single vehicle crash when we crossed the san mateo bridge about an hour ago. in the eastbound direction, a tow truck was in the process of clearing out that roadway. hopefully we're showing you that now. throughout the morning, we've been talking to drivers about dealing with the commute on a morning like this, and some of the things that worry them most about driving during this heavy rainfall. pothol
