her name was andrea constand. it focused around three counts of felony aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting constand in 2004. this was one of the only cases that could be filed under the statute of limitations, correct? >> that's right. most of the others were well beyond the statute of limitations. i'll take the other position. this is a surprising sentence. i practice in this jurisdiction and in that courthouse. the sentencing guidelines called for a sentence in the range of 22 months to 36 months. in pennsylvania, they give a minimum and maximum sentence. cosby's three years means he's eligible for parole in three years, but if he violates parole, he could potentially serve the full ten years. in essence, he almost got the max, well beyond the statutory sentencing guidelines for his particular crime based on the offense gravity and his criminal history, which of course is zero because he has no prior criminal history. so it is a surprise in that it well exceeds the sentencing guidelin

andrea constand viewed him as a mentor and put her trust in him. and also, they wanted to see five to ten years for bill cosby, a $25,000 fine and want him to pay various court costs, costs of prosecutions sheriff's coug costs. this means he's going to be required to register as a sexually violent predator for life. he'll have to do mandatory counseling to deal with this issue and there's going to be notification of the community that a sexually violent predator lives there. that is separate from the sentence we're waiting to come down now. in this first guilty verdict of a celebrity accused of sexual assault in the me too era. a lot of cosby accusers said my faith in humanity has been restored by this verdict. even if you have jurors saying it wasn't about me too, a lot of other folks say because of this environment, this moment in time, more women are more likely to be believed and they point to this case as the first base kag whe -- big case where we've seen that play out with three guilty verdicts. >> this was like the beginning of the beginnin

reporter: the man once known as america's dad was convicted in april of drugging and molesting andrea constands philadelphia home. constand is a former temple university administrator. cosby's sentencing hearing is expected to last two days with constand likely to give a victim impact statement. judge o'neill could sentence cosby to as many as ten years in prison for each of the three counts he was convicted but cosby's lawyers are expected to plead to keep the entertainer at home because of his age and health problems. cosby's criminal case began nearly three years ago at the end of 2015. the county's district attorney's office reopened the sexual assault case against cosby just days before the statute of limitations ran out. prosecutors charge cosby with aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting constand. at the first trial in june of 2017, dozens of cosby's alleged victims from across the country attended in support of constand. but after more than 50 hours of deliberations, the first jury could not reach a verdict resulting in a mistrial. but nearly one year later, t
