wjz 13 and andrea fujii are live on the story, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, don, good morning, everyone. jury selection begins today, those jurors will be asked to decide if yeardley love's death was premeditated murder or a horrible accident. yeardley love grew up in cockeysville and attended notre dame prep, 22 years old when she died, killed at the hands of her college boyfriend, 24- year-old huguely. his murder trial is underway today. >> it's attention to a trial that is by the national media, we haven't seen her before. >> reporter: the university of virginia lacrosse players were having problems with their relationship before love's death. hughly admitted he kicked down the door of her off campus apartment and shookler as her head hit the wall. his defense team says huguely didn't intend to kill her. george huguely learned that yeardley love died when he was told that by a detective. >> reporter: the jury will hear that defense along with his lacrosse teammates, describing him as very drunk the night love died. >> the prosecution's case looks solid. >> reporter: he expe

andrea fujii is live outside of park view middle. >> reporter: good morning, the 13 year old's mother says he was getting a ride home after getting sick from drinking 4 loco and opened a moving car door to throw up and fell in to on coming traffic. >> it doesn't seem real. >> reporter: chris is devastated to learn the story behind the accident that killed her 13-year-old son, michael. >> he drank one of those energy drinks with alcohol that all of the kids seem to think is okay. >> reporter: she says michael drank 4 loco, a energy drink filled with alcohol, which made the 13 year old sick to his stomach. his step father drove him home saturday night. he opened the door to the moving car so he could vomit and fell. his friend was in the car. >> we stopped as fast as possible and -- we just tried to help him out. he was trying to get up and a car hit him. >> reporter: he was an 8th grader, he was extremely popular. >> i got a car. right when they said he got hit, i started crying and sprinted down here. >> reporter: teenagers created a makeshift memorial. hundreds came out for a candle

andrea fujii is live with more on the show down. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that debate was supposed to take place last night. but with the vote now so close it is re-scheduled for today. debate begins today on house bill 438, same sex marriage, but which way the vote will go remains in question. >> the situation is very volatile and -- and a change of one or two votes could determine the outcome of those passage or failure. >> but thursday night the house recessed after just 15 minutes. the only order of business was passing an amendment to push back the effective date of same sex marriage to january 2013, instead of this october. it is a move that could win over some opponents. >> the amendment allows both sides, especially the opponents to petition the issue to the ballot. >> opponents of the bill say they want to know why one republican delegate who voted against the bill in committee has apparently changed his vote. that delegate, wade koch of baltimore county, who proposed the new amendment. he refused to answer questions. >> i will talk to you tomorrow

andrea fujii is live in the newsroom with more. andrea? >> reporter: military police are still searching for the gunman who shot and killed major robert marchanti. their bodies were flown into dover air force base late last night. the men were killed when an afghan soldier breached security thursday. major marchanti's son is a baltimore city firefighter. and the baltimore fire chief is ordering all baltimore buildings to fly their flags at half staff in his honor. he joined the army in 1984 and joined the guard in 1986. he also taught physical education at several baltimore county schools. kai? >> andrea, thank you. marchanti will be buried at arlington national cemetery. >>> wife of former prince george's county executive jack johnson owes fines that must be paid. johnson was sentenced to a year and a day for obstructioning investigation into her husband's corruption. >>> the city's chief technology official is in hot water. rico singleton is being faulted for ethical violations while he worked for the state of new york. an audit claimed

i'm andrea fujii in for adam may and here's what people are talking about tonight. a maryland man west with the jury. wrapped up the case of a murder trial. george hughly is accused of murder. adam may has the latest. >> reporter: a wide range of emotions. the prosecutor broke down in tears as he revisited the final moments of his life. george hughly looked a little nervous. he was fidgeting as yardly's final moments of life were discussed in closing arguments. in the off campus apartment when hughly kicked in her door. imagine what that was like. she's freaked out, in the corner of her bed, trying to get away. love couldn't scream because hughly covered her mouth and showed the beaten face autopsy. you could hear crying in the courtroom. even the prosecutor broke down in tears how she was found face down in her bed. he took the computer with the threatening message. when hughly threw the computer in the dumpster, it proves intent of murder. he said it was not an accident. defense attorneys painted a much different version of the events. in closing arguments, the de
