maryland voters head to the poles to cast their votes and as and as andrea fujii reports they have a new option for casting a vote this year. >> reporter: maryland's presidential primary is jut just over a week away but some voters are already casting their ballots thanks to early voting. it is the first time maryland has offered early voting for a presidential primary and so far voters say it is a success. >> people can't get off work to vote. both saturday and sunday if you are off you can vote. >> maryland's 37 republican delegates are up for grabs and while mitt romney is leading the delegate count he visited last week hoping to guarantee a win here, but newt gingrich and rick san sap are also hoping to garner attention with visits to maryland scheduled for tuesday. and with early voting, which started on saturday, marylanders have more time to have their say. >> it does give people the opportunity, more of a choice to come out for six additional days. plus you do have the absentee process. and then you have primary election day. >> reporter: early voting continues this monday th

andrea fujii reports from annapolis. journey is for a good cause. >> matt weatherford set sail in annapolis back in june. his goal, raising enough money to help sailors with disabilities fulfill their dream. >> reporter: this 27-foot sailboat has been matt rutherford's home for nine months. he sailed the chesapeake, around iceberg, canada. he sailed into some dangerous situations, all to raise money for crab. the chesapeake region accessible boating. >> when you combine ice with fog and add a lot of wind to it, it's like a witch's brew. >> reporter: it's an organization that allows lance hendricks to sail, even after a spinal cord injury. >> once that i got hurt, i thought that that opportunity was gone. but through organizations like crab, i have been able to get back into it. >> reporter: crab has helped hundreds of physically challenged people hit the water. and matt's desire to share the sport is what motivates this journey. >> reporter: for the 268 days he's been at sea, he hasn't docked once. instead, he relies on

andrea fujii is live in the newsroom with more on a new, no- confidence vote taking place right now. andrea? >> well, kai, anne arundel county firefighters are taking a no-confidence vote in fire chief robert ray. this comes days after police officers in the county voted no confidence in their chief and county executive john leopold. leopold was indicted last week for allegedly misusing his police security. some firefighters say the chief is deliberately holding open more than 60 vacant jobs in a money-saving move. today's vote allows all firefighters to cast this in a secure system. >> reporter: the no-confidence voting for the anne arundel county fire chief continues until 9:00 tonight. >>> four firefighters are recovering today after their engine is involved in an accident. the firefighters were responding to an accident when their car hit this truck on richie highway. three other people were also injured. one person was rescued from the building where the original fire call came from. he is in critical condition. the cause of the fire and the crash are still under investigation. >

andrea fujii explains why traditional toll booths may soon be diss appearing. >> if the maryland transportation authority has its way, all of these would be history. but it is not a done deal yet. >> reporter: whether it's stopping to pay cash or slowing down for an ez pass. there's always a delay, driving through booths. so the maryland transportation authority is studying what it will take to get rid of them. >> there's a customer convenience factor. and it's also environmentally a little more sensitive not to have cars stopping and idling in toll booths. >> reporter: it already uses all electronic tolls and to convert the other 7 would cost upwards of $180 million, money the mdta says they don't have yet. but the idea is already sparking concern from the american federation of state, county and municipal employees who represent the nearly 200 toll booth workers. >> we've had no discussions. and that's why we are demanding that the state sit down with the employees and the employee representative, to work through that. >> reporter: the changeover would mean no option to pay cash. >> reporter:
