cbs 2's andrea grimes is at the brooklyn navy yard where the two candidates will go head to head. andrea, good morning. >>reporter: good morning to you, chris and mary. both candidates certainly have a lot of support here in new york. bernie sanders the brooklyn- born, vermont senator and, of course, hillary clinton the former new york senator, they will face off tonight right here at the brooklyn navy yard behind me. >>reporter: it's a showdown tonight at the brooklyn navy yard for the two democrats hoping to become the next commander in chief. bernie sanders and hillary clinton will face off at 9:00 for a debate after days of campaigning in new york. cbs 2's andrea grimes has more from times square. andrea. >>reporter: well, mary and dick, proponents of this legislation say it is not a ban, but simply a way to regulate commercial activity here in times square. commercial activity many consider a big nuisance. but opponents say this could severely restrict how they earn a living. the costumed characters and painted ladies will not have free reign to roam times square like they do now if this legislation becomes law. the bill new york city councilmembers will vote on today would give the city department of transportation power to create restricted zones for them and others looking for tips. this comes after numerous complaints from pedestrians fights over tips and even arrests. the d.o.t. commissioner spoke at a hearing last week. >> some people are feeling that they are getting unwanted and aggressive solicitations, and we want to find a way to create a space where people can continue to apply their trade and express themselves and perform, but tourists and others walking through this spa

cbs 2's andrea grimes has more from lower manhattan. andrea. >>reporter: well, chris and mary, the mayor's spokesperson says everyone involved followed the letter of the law, but prosecutors have some big questions. the alleged corruption scandal swirling around mayor bill de blasio has now directly hit city hall. his attorney maya wiley confirms, quote, city hall has been subpoenaed by the new york county district attorney's office and the u.s. attorney's office for the southern district, and we are fully cooperating with the investigation. the mayor has not been personally served. the investigation focuses on the mayor's fundraising and how he raised money to unseat state senate republicans in order to further his political agenda. u.s. attorney preet berara and if de blasio violated the law by circumventing laws and big if de blasio violated the law by circumventing laws and big donations for candidates which is not allowed. probers are also reportedly looking into whether promises were made in exchange for donations. the mayor has defended
